科研成果
五十餘年來，數學與系統科學研究院薈萃了我國一大批著名數學家和系統科學家。四個研究所的科研人員在理論研究和實際套用方面，為我國數學和系統科學的發展以及國民經濟和國防建設做出了重要的貢獻，獲得各種科技獎勵近500項，其中包括首屆國家最高科學技術獎（吳文俊），4項國家自然科學獎一等獎（華羅庚：“典型域上的多元復變數函式論”、吳文俊：“示性類與示嵌類的研究”、陳景潤和王元等：哥德巴赫猜想研究”、馮康等：“哈密爾頓系統的辛幾何算法”），1項國家科技進步獎特等獎，19項國家自然科學二等獎以及一些重要的國際學術獎勵。
為了獎勵在知識創新研究工作中取得的突出科研成果,鼓勵科研人員積極探索,勇於創新,推動數學與系統科學的發展,更好地為研究院創新文化建設服務，數學院自2003年開始設立了突出科研成果獎，以表彰近年來取得或受到國際同行高度評價的優秀成果。

科研成果
根據2015年8月研究院官網顯示，研究院歷年來獲得科技重要獎勵500餘項，包括首屆國家最高科學技術獎（吳文俊），5項國家自然科學獎一等獎（華羅庚“典型域上的多元復變數函式論”、吳文俊“示性類與示嵌類的研究”、陳景潤和王元等“哥德巴赫猜想研究” 、馮康等“哈密爾頓系統的辛幾何算法”等），1項國家科技進步特等獎，1項有“東方諾貝爾獎”之稱的邵逸夫數學獎，27（或者29）項國家自然科學獎二等獎，以及50餘項國際學術獎勵和榮譽。
學術期刊
《數學學報》是由中國科學院數學與系統科學院數學所和中國數學會主辦的數學專業學術期刊，創刊於1936年，是中國數學會最早的刊物，也是中國的第一個數學期刊，主要刊登純粹數學和套用數學方面具有獨創性的優秀成果性論文，例如代數，數論，分析，偏微分方程，幾何，機率論等。該刊為中國各核心期刊評選機構所評選的核心期刊，收錄該刊的中國國內外權威性檢索機構包括：中國國內各大資料庫，美國數學會《數學評論》，俄羅斯《數學文摘》，英國《科學文摘》及德國《數學文摘》等。
《套用數學學報》是中國數學會主辦的中國一流的學術刊物，創刊於1976年，主要刊登國際、中國套用數學及相關領域有關理論、方法或套用方面的研究論文，注重論文的創新性及學術水平。《中國科學引文索引》將該刊作為資料庫來源期刊，《中國數學文摘》、《中國學術期刊文摘》和《中國科學技術期刊文摘資料庫》（CSTA）等都為該刊作文摘索引。中國國外數學領域有重要影響的數學文摘刊物，如美國數學會的《數學評論》（MR）、俄羅斯的《數學文摘》、英國的《科學文摘》（SA）及德國的《數學文摘》等也都為該刊作文摘。在該刊上發表的文章已成為內地及香港各大、專院校及科研機構晉級、評獎和評定職稱的重要依據。
《系統科學與數學》是中國國內外公開發行的學報類月刊，是中國核心期刊之一，主要刊登系統科學以及與系統科學有關的數學、交叉科學、工程套用等方面在理論和方法上具有創造性的學術論文，創造性地解決實際問題的科學技術報告，以及重要學術動態的報導。被中國國內外重要資料庫或權威性文摘期刊廣泛收錄，包括：

《計算數學》創刊於1979年，主辦單位是中國科學院數學與系統科學研究院，是數值計算的理論、分析及其套用的學術性刊物。期刊主要刊登中國國內外科研人員在計算數學基礎理論、方法和科學計算研究方面所取得的具有創造性和重大學術意義的科研成果論文。
《數值計算與計算機套用》是由中國科學院數學與系統科學研究院主辦的學術性刊物， 季刊，主要報導： 套用計算機解決各種科學和工程問題的數學模型、計算方法、軟體技術和重大數值模擬實踐等方面所取得的創造性成果和研究報告。
《系統工程理論與實踐》（月刊）是由中國科學技術協會主管、中國系統工程學會主辦的集系統科學、管理科學、信息 科學等為一體的綜合科技期刊，創刊於1981年3月。連續多次被評為“百種中國 傑出學術期刊”。是EI Compendex資料庫收錄期刊，也是中國在管理類期刊中唯一進入國際EI檢索的 科技期刊。被國家自然科學基金委員會認定為管理科學重要期刊、全國中文核心期刊，入編《中國學術期 刊文摘》、《中國學術期刊（光碟版）》、（台灣）華藝數位藝術股份有限公司《中文電子期刊服務》。
《數學譯林》是由中國科學院數學與系統科學研究院數學研究所主辦的以譯文為主的綜合性數學刊物，目的是介紹中國國內外數學的進展，普及現代數學知識，促進中國數學事業的發展和水平的提高。
《數學的實踐與認識》由中國科學院數學與系統科學研究院主辦，該刊被以下資料庫收錄：CSCD 中國科學引文資料庫來源期刊（2013-2014年度）（含擴展版），核心期刊：中文核心期刊（2011、2008、2004、2000、1992）。
人才培養
學科建設
院所風貌根據2015年8月研究院官網顯示，研究院下屬的四個研究所是中國最早被批准具有碩士、博士學位授予權的單位之一，是首批國家批准的博士後流動站之一；有15個碩士點、12個博士點（二級學科）、4個博士後流動站（數學、系統科學、統計學、管理科學與工程），分布在數學、統計學、系統科學、計算機科學與技術、管理科學與工程五個一級學科中。
在教育部學位與研究生教育發展中心組織的2006年度全國學科評估中，該院數學學科以本學科最高評估得分（94分）在全國62個參評單位中取得整體水平第一名；2008年套用數學獲北京市重點學科；2010年基礎數學、計算數學、機率論與數理統計、套用數學、運籌學與控制論、管理科學與工程等六學科獲中國科學院重點學科。

教學建設
培養成果
根據2015年8月研究院官網顯示，從招收第一批研究生至今，數學與系統科學研究院已為國家培養碩士研究生1565人，博士研究生1781人，其中1998年知識創新工程以來培養了碩士生338人，博士生894人。
在研究院各所培養的研究生中，愈50人先後獲得國家傑出青年科學基金。近年來，有2人被評為“中國十大傑出青年”，3人獲中國青年科學家獎，1人獲全國五四青年獎章，3人擔任“973”首席科學家，8人獲香港“求是”傑出青年學者獎，10人獲中國科學院青年科學家獎一等獎，等等。例如：
1991年，國家教委和國務院學位委員會為紀念中國學位制度創建十周年，表彰了一批做出突出貢獻的中國博士碩士學位獲得者，該院畢業生丁偉岳、郭雷、劉嘉荃、謝惠民、余其煌和陳貴強等六人被授予“做出突出貢獻的中國博士學位獲得者”。
該院在全國百篇優秀博士學位論文的評選中保持良好成績：2004年－2010年產生了8篇全國優秀博士學位論文，平均每年1篇，其中2006年數學學科有6篇全國優秀博士學位論文，數學院入選2篇。至今有3篇獲北京市優博論文；有21篇獲中國科學院優博論文。

培養制度
研究院2005年開始逐步實行博士生資格考試和碩轉博資格考核，制定《碩轉博資格考試管理辦法》；加強碩轉博生的專業考核和綜合能力的考核工作，進一步提高研究生課程學習的積極性，並保證了博士研究生的培養質量，逐步形成了一整套較為規範的、行之有效的實施辦法。該院是中國科學院大學第一個實行資格考試的單位。
研究院實行二段式的培養模式：一年級碩士生在中國科學院大學接受基礎課程訓練，之後回培養單位繼續專業課程學習和科研工作。從1999年至今，該院導師開設了數學學科的大部分課程，每年開設課程近100門，不少課程被評為中國科學院大學優秀課程。
為保證開設課程質量，該院成立數學學科專家組，制定研究生培養方案，撰寫教學大綱；編制《博（碩）士研究生課程設定》，數學學科是第一批完成課程設定的學科。制定《研究生課程管理規定》，實現所有課程統一管理，並與其它院所和高校共享；統一規範開課大綱、規範學分，統一開具課程成績單。該院是第一個將博士課程列入國科大教學平台。
研究生實驗班
2009年該院和國科大數學科學學院聯合創辦“研究生實驗班”。實驗班是根據“加強基礎、拓寬專業、因材施教、尊重興趣”的指導思想，按照一年級集中統一基礎課教學，二年級選擇導師和研究方向的培養模式，採用更加靈活的管理方式，培養高素質創新拔尖人才。根據“加強基礎、拓寬專業、因材施教、尊重興趣”的指導思想，由該院著名學者組成導師組，以導師組的形式招生和培養，第一年不分導師統一基礎課程學習和培養，一年後根據學生的興趣和導師的要求，通過雙向選擇確定導師。

研究院榮譽
五十年來，四個研究所的科研人員在理論研究和實際套用方面，為我國數學和系統科學的發展以及國民經濟和國防建設做出了重要的貢獻，獲得各種科技獎勵400餘項，包括1項國家最高科學技術獎，4項國家自然科學獎一等獎，以及一些重要的國際獎勵。一些重要的套用成果受到中央領導和實際部門的充分肯定，也顯示了數學理論在國民經濟主戰場的作用。
In the past 50 years, the scientific personnel of the four institutes has made important contributions to the country's development of mathematics and system sciences as well as the construction in national economy and national defence. They have won more than 400 scientific awards, including one National Top Science and Technology Award, four first-class prizes of the National Natural Science Award, and some important international awards. Some important research achievements in applied sciences have been acknowledged by the central government leaders and relevant divisions of application. This has proved the important role of mathematical theory in the main fronts of the national economy.

研究院現有中國科學院院士15人，中國工程院院士2人。
中國科學院院士：吳文俊、王元、楊樂、陸啟鏗、丁夏畦、萬哲先、石鐘慈、林群、陳翰馥、馬志明、丁偉岳、嚴加安、陸汝鈐、李邦河、郭雷；
中國工程院院士：崔俊芝、劉源張。
已去世的院士有：華羅庚、張宗燧、馮康、關肇直、陳景潤、許國志。
此外，曾經在數學所工作過，後來當選為院士的有：蘇步青、陳建功、段學復、莊逢甘、胡世華、戴元本、胡海昌、胡和生、宋健、夏培肅、唐稚松。
The AMSS now has 15 CAS academicians and two CAE (Chinese Academy of Engineering) academicians. 學術交流
從1956年起，數學研究所就通過舉辦培訓班、講習班、接待進修教師等方式，密切了與國內高等院校的交流合作。來自高等院校的許多數學工作者受益匪淺，後來都成為各自領域的學術骨幹。當時的國際合作交流，主要限於社會主義國家。1978年改革開放以後，大批科研人員走出國門，與國際同行開展了廣泛的交流。
1985年，在王元所長等人的積極倡導和推動下，數學研究所成為科學院第一批開放研究所，稍後其他三所也建立了有關的開放實驗室，貫徹"開放、流動、聯合、面向全國、面向世界"的方針，大規模地接待國內外訪問學者。
在最近三年中，科研人員應邀出訪719人次，接待國內外來訪1055人次（其中海外學者604位，國內學者451位）。1999--2001年，研究院主辦或與其他單位共同主辦了25次重要的國際學術會議或研討會。常年舉辦的學術討論班有70多個。
Since 1956, the Institute of Mathematics has increased the exchanges with domestic institutions of higher learning through holding training sessions and receiving teachers for training. Many mathematicians from universities benefited from the training and later became mainstays of various fields. The international cooperation and exchanges in the 1950s were mainly conducted with the socialist countries. After the reform and opening-up policy began in 1978, a large number of researchers went abroad and engaged in cooperative research and extensive exchanges with foreign counterparts.
In 1985, advocated by Director Wang Yuan, the Institute of Mathematics became one of the first institutes of the CAS that were opened to foreign scientists. Soon, the other three institutes also set up open laboratories, which received visiting scholars from both home and abroad in light of the principle of "opening, flowing, integrating, and gearing the research to the country and the world".
In recent three years, 719 person/times of visits abroad were made by researchers of the AMSS, who also received 1,055 visitors (including 604 overseas scholars and 451 domestic visitors). From 1999 to 2001, the AMSS also sponsored or co-sponsored 25 major international conferences or seminars. More than 70 academic workshops are being held regularly every year.
研究生培養
數學研究所一貫有尊師重教、甘當人梯的優良傳統，把培養人才放在十分重要的地位。所內還曾設立鼓勵青年學者相互切磋的"練拳園地"。
1956年，數學所招收了第一批研究生。但"文革"前招收的研究生總數不足20人。
1978年我國恢復研究生制度，數學所從1500餘名考生中擇優錄取了24名碩士研究生。從此，人才的培養走向制度化，被評為科學院博士生重點培養基地。
1978年以來培養碩士近千人，博士500餘人，博士後100餘人。一批傑出的青年數學家脫穎而出，有3人當選為中國科學院院士，2人被評為中國十大傑出青年，2人獲中國青年科學家獎，1人獲全國五四青年獎章，3人擔任"973"首席科學家，20人獲國家傑出青年基金，8人獲香港"求是"傑出青年學者獎，10人獲中國科學院青年科學家獎一等獎，17人獲得"百人計畫"支持。
The Institute of Mathematics has a fine tradition of respecting teachers, of valuing education, and of attaching great importance to personnel training. The institute once set up a "boxing practicing field" for young scholars to exchange views. In 1956, the institute enrolled the first batch of graduate students. But before the "cultural revolution," less than 20 people were enrolled for the graduate study. In 1978, the graduate study system was resumed, and the institute enrolled 24 graduate students selected from more than 1,500 people. Since then, personnel training had been systemized, and the institute became a key base of the CAS to train students toward doctor's degree. Since 1978, nearly 1,000 students got the master's degree, more than 500 students got the doctor's degree, and more than 100 scholars conducted post-doctoral study in the four institutes. A number of outstanding young mathematicians have emerged. Three of them were elected academicians of the CAS; two were honored as "Top Ten Outstanding Youth"; two won the Young Scientist Award of China; one won the National May 4th Medal; three became chief scientists of "973" projects; 20 obtained the financial support from the State Outstanding Youth Fund; 8 won Hong Kong's "Qiushi" Award for Outstanding Young Scholars; 10 won the first-class prize of the CAS Young Scientists; and 17 were supported by the "Hundred Talents Program"
校友會
自1978年我國恢復研究生制度以來，數學與系統科學研究院已培養碩士和博士各千餘人，博士後300餘人，可謂桃李滿天下。為了進一步凝聚校友力量，促進數學與系統科學研究院發展，研究院領導決定籌備成立校友會。校友會宗旨是“服務海內外校友，促進數學院發展。”目前籌備工作正處於第一階段，即校友工作開局和夯實基礎的階段。將通過追尋校友、建立並完善校友資料庫、創建校友網來構建“一庫、一網”的溝通聯絡框架，這是開展校友工作的基本思路，也是校友工作的重要內容。根據籌備工作的進行程度，將在適當時間正式成立校友會，同時在民政部門登記備案。歡迎廣大校友積極參與校友會籌備工作，為數學與系統科學院的發展貢獻力量。
研究隊伍
中國科學院數學與系統科學研究院創建於1998年12月，是由中科院數學研究所(建於1952年)、套用數學研究所(建於1979年)、系統科學研究所(建於1979年)及計算數學與科學工程計算研究所(建於1995年)等四個研究所整合而成。全院現有職工337人，科研人員231人，其中研究員108人，正研級高工3人，副研究員46人，高級工程師5人。研究院另有博士後52人。
數學與系統科學研究院科研隊伍實力雄厚，薈萃了我國許多著名的數學家和系統科學家，目前已形成了一支素質精良、具有很強競爭力的科研人才群體。研究院現有中國科學院院士16人，中國工程院院士2人，中科院“百人計畫”入選者22人，國家傑出青年基金獲得者A類35人，B類18人，C類1人。
