2001年 9月11日，美國尤其是紐約歷史上黑暗的一天，以至於現在還有很多美國人不願面對那慘痛的一天。《華氏911》是一部紀錄片，但不是所謂的譁眾取寵以重現911慘烈的紀錄片，它是一個左派導演對這段歷史的紀錄，一封另類的信函。華氏911，取自經典科幻小說《華氏451》之名，是美國導演麥可·摩爾於2004年拍攝的紀錄片。影片針對美國總統喬治·沃克·布希的反恐戰爭等政策進行批判。本片在坎城影展獲得金棕櫚獎，在美國本土也有很好的票房。

名字原因

這部紀錄片取名源自經典科幻小說《華氏451》，小說描繪了一個醜陋的未來世界：縱火者燒毀了圖書館和民居，搗毀裡面的書籍，從而讓人們無法獨立思考，華氏451就是書本燃燒的溫度。借鑑這層意思，導演摩爾為紀錄片取名《華氏911》，意為“在這個溫度下，自由也會燃燒”。

影片內涵

“刺頭”導演麥可-摩爾的新作，涉及美國911事件的一部紀錄片。麥可-摩爾在影片中直接批評布希政府在反恐怖主義上的態度，表明布希取得的所謂"成就"不過是符合了他的自身利益。同時，他還揭露了布希家族與拉登家族之間不同尋常的政治和金融關係。影片有一半是在伊拉克實地拍攝的，敘述了美國士兵因為錯誤的戰爭理由而混淆了自己在伊拉克所扮演的角色……

5月初，發行商迪斯尼明令禁止《華氏911》登上美國院線，怕惹惱布希弟弟。
5月17日，《華氏911》正式在坎城影展亮相，並成為本屆影展大熱。
5月22日，《華氏911》獲得金棕櫚大獎，也是第一次有紀錄片獲得坎城電影節最高獎項。
5月24日，坎城影展評審團成曾嚴肅考慮過是否要頒給美國總統布希“坎城影帝”的稱號。
6月2日，在奪得坎城大獎後，《華氏911》得以擺脫原本“禁映”的命運。
6月14日，《華氏911》紐約試映破單日票房紀錄
6月15日，《華氏911》被美國電影協會定為R級，即意味著17歲以下青少年不被允許單獨觀看。摩爾提出抗議。

麥可·摩爾，出生於美國北部密西根州弗林特小鎮的一個愛爾蘭家庭。弗林特雖然不大，但在美國卻非常有名。因為那裡是對美國現代工業發展作出巨大貢獻的世界聞名的超大型企業通用汽車公司的重要生產基地。小鎮上大部分的居民都靠著給通用打工過活，他的父親和祖父也都是通用汽車廠的工人。在從事紀錄片製作工作之前，摩爾已經是有名的筆桿子。他先後在美國中西部受好評的一份非主流刊物《密西根之聲》以及知名的左翼雜誌《瓊斯母親》等擔任編輯，期間已經開始撰寫文章反映底層工人階級生活的艱辛。後來，因為他自作主張用一名普通的通用汽車廠男工人的肖像做為舊金山某著名雜誌的封面，被老闆打發回了老家弗林特。

布希的首次出影

麥可·摩爾是個連看起來都很美國的大塊頭，他紀錄的也是很美國的事件。從反思槍枝管制與校園暴力的《科倫拜恩的保齡》，到這個繼1956年雅克·庫斯托《寂靜的世界》後第二部以紀錄片奪得金棕櫚的《華氏911》，他需要的除了勇氣還有很多。

布希，切尼，拉姆斯菲爾德眾多國會議員，出現在紀錄片裡的大牌不少，他們的“表演”也絕對真實傑出。以至於坎城評審團曾嚴肅考慮過，是否要頒給美國總統布希“坎城影帝”的稱號。可激進的題材不知是不是戳到了布希政府的痛處，本片在美國卻差點上映無望--這開始幾乎讓摩爾發狂--他在坎城頒獎禮上曾激動的表示：“全世界都能看到這部電影了！除了一個國家！”

而現在的摩爾更直截了當地表示，他不在意影片口碑如何，他只是希望這部影片可以改變11月的美國總統大選。“如果有人在看完影片後，放棄投布希的票，電影就算成功了。”

製作花絮

這部紀錄片共投資600萬美元，但是題材的過於敏感讓迪斯尼公司禁止米拉麥克斯影業在夏季院線上映此片，好在麥可-摩爾是一個能在大庭廣眾直斥總統的人，去年的《科拜恩的保齡》讓他名聲大造，收入頗豐，想來炒作會更合他的想法。而且法國一向站在美國的對立面，尤其是對伊拉克的問題上，麥可-摩爾這樣的作品正好合了法國人的胃口，當然還有他的勇氣。

影片放映兩天后，美國在伊拉克前線士兵的家屬組織和9-11死難者家屬組織發表公開聲明，呼籲布希總統看這部影片。

部紀錄片電影到底因何內容引起如此大的社會反響？

《華氏911》是一部由真實素材製作而成，以美國總統布希為靶子的紀錄片。開片是4年前布希與戈爾競選總統期間戈爾在幾個州獲勝的鏡頭。那時媒體紛紛預測戈爾將獲勝。CBS甚至斷言“戈爾，又一個美國總統的誕生”。然後是戲劇性的佛羅里達選票結果使戈爾以微弱票數失去總統座席，布希成為美國新一任總統。製作人兼導演邁克-摩爾自己配的旁白說，“布希偷去了這屆總統職務”。接著，鏡頭出現了人們從未看到過的畫面：布希的車隊在首都華盛頓遇到的不是歡迎和慶祝的人群，而是陣容龐大的抗議示威者。雞蛋投向總統的坐車——布希成為美國歷史上第一個從後門溜進白宮上任的總統。

影片隨即轉入黑場。沒有圖像，只有聲音。那些熟悉的在過去幾年裡被媒體頻繁播放的聲音：9-11爆炸的聲音。伴隨著聲音，每個觀眾都在腦子裡“看到”了第一架飛機撞入世貿中心，伴隨而來的混亂和不知所措的曼哈頓；接著是第二架飛機撞進大樓……當鏡頭再次出現時，聲音沒有了。你看見了震驚和悲痛中的街頭的人們，他們難以置信的眼神，張大的哭泣的嘴，悲痛地垂下的頭。所有一切都沒有聲音，只剩悲痛。

待聲音和畫面再次融入一體時，出現的是度假中的布希。旁白告訴你，上任8個月裡，布希40%的時間是在度假；而9月11日這一天，總統在佛羅里達的一所國小給國小生們念書並拍照。這是一組第一次向公眾披露的鏡頭，它讓所有美國人永遠難忘——他們第一次看到了自己的總統在9月11日恐怖分子襲擊美國的那一刻的真實反應。“就在布希剛要上前給孩子們開始念書時，助手走過來對他耳語了一句。後來公開的資料表明，這個助手告訴布希：美國受到了攻擊。”鏡頭中的布希一臉的茫然不知所措。邁克-摩爾的旁白變得刻薄，“沒有助手告訴他該怎么做，沒有保衛人員前後簇擁，布希不知道該怎么辦。他決定繼續給孩子們念‘我的寵物山羊’。”鏡頭就這樣停在布希惶惑的不知所措的眼神上。

接下來，邁克·摩爾把觀眾帶到他的家鄉——密西根州的小鎮弗林特，一個被失業重重打擊的成百上千的美國普通小鎮之一。在那裡，麗拉-利普斯考姆(Lila Lipscomb)，一個普通的美國婦女，一個士兵的母親。她幾十年如一日地每天把美國國旗插在旗桿上，她自豪自己是一個美國人，她把自己的孩子送去當兵，希望他有一個好的前程。在伊拉克，她兒子的直升機被擊落。對著攝像機，麗拉念了兒子給她的最後一封信。信中說，“媽媽，我不知道我們為什麼要到這來。不知道還要讓我們在這場毫無意義的戰爭中打多久。希望下次選舉時，布希這個笨蛋不會再次被選上。”這封信讓電影院裡的觀眾流下了眼淚。
