劇情介紹
本片講述19世紀末英軍在非洲的一處要塞人手不足，但遭到成千上萬當地土著祖魯人的進攻。祖魯族是非洲最善戰的民族，與英軍發生激烈交戰。英軍頑強抵抗，最終以小勝大。這是一個真實故事，但具有強烈的殖民色彩。

本片在處理雙方的對戰的場面時，不只傳達英國士兵的愛國情操，也同時表現祖魯戰士為保護鄉土，誓死如歸的勇氣，如此一來，觀眾可以從兩種角度去思考這場戰役，並對雙方都寄予同情與敬佩……由於影片一半的篇幅描寫聲勢浩大的戰爭場面，加上當地土著居民的奇風異俗，故仍能吸引觀眾。1979年推出前傳《天搖地盪震山河》（Zulu Dawn，又譯《血海山河》），由荷蘭和美國聯合攝製，講英國人魯莽入侵祖魯部落，造成1879年的慘敗。影片動作場面相當恢宏。
