Rico Mariani is a performance wow gold kaufenguru at Microsoft and a wonderful person. After a number of years on the Visual C++ team since 1.0, he went to MSN and then to CLR land where he now beats the "measure! don't Louboutinship bad performance! measure!" drum to much good effect. It's a pleasure to work with him. Interestingly, Rico is one of the handful of people I polled for "what should I cover" in the new Machine Architecture talk I'm currently writing for the seminar Bjarne and I are doing next month. In the current draft of that talk, I have two slides titled "Mariani's Methodology (or, Rico's Rules)" -- I'm sure he'll be mortified at the capitals.
getting together with 40 of your best friends and leading an epic raid on the alternate faction's capitol city can be fun, but I have to say that there's fun to be had doing things all by yourself, too. Some classes were soloing Onyxia at level 70 -- and it seems ed hardy clothinglike just about everyone can solo her at or near level 80. (For those thinking of trying this yourself -- it's good fun and not a bad amount of gold for the effort.) Zul'Gurub and Ahn'Qiraj (the 20-man wing, at least) have both been cleared (mostly) by a lone player. Karazhan has been cleared with a group of 3 -- though in our post-Wrath world, I'd imagine that everything save Netherspite could be discount jordan shoeseasily managed with less. (And at some point even Netherspite is bound to be overcome by brute force.) To solo or not to solo, that is the question. Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous Hunters (who sometimes seem to think they have a monopoly on soloing content) or to take arms against a sea of dragons (dragons, elementals, demons -- we're not picky), and by opposing, runescapeearn epic (albeit under-level) loot. So, tell us, what have you soloed lately?
It’s been an eventful couple of days, and now that I have some time to kill (we’re on a nighttrain heading for Berlin) I can finally make another post. I arrived in Paris, and as I mentioned before, got a bit lost navigating Charles de Gaulle airport, as my only directions for getting from there to the hostel were on the computer, which had died the night before. The good news is that French customs are extremely lax–I basically just waltzed past a bored-looking guy in a little booth and right into the country–no awkward questions about visiting farms, no need to lie about carrying food, nothing. After waiting in a 2 hour line toget tickets with other jetlagged Americans, I managed to catch a train to downtown Paris, where I got off at the stop with an appealing name and asked several French people for directions (only one responded in English, so I feel Cheap Uggslike the hours and hours of torture at the hands of Madame Allen proved worthwhile). After taking various random metro lines, I ended up at Rue Jaccard, where Ben, Isaac, Jason and Suzie were waiting at the hostel. There was also a funny little French man at the door who seemed delighted to see me even though he had no clue who I was.
