伯特·蘭卡斯特伯特•蘭卡斯特(Burt Lancaster)出生於紐約一個郵局工人家庭共有弟兄姐妹5人還街頭亂跑時候蘭卡斯特就對體操運動產生了濃厚興趣後來到一個馬戲團當上了雜技演員受傷後才離開那裡第二次世界大戰服兵役期間被引薦到美國勞軍聯合組織做宣傳表演
1946年第一次參加電影拍攝《The Killers》中充當一個配角從此一鳴驚人成為電影明星雖然沒有接受過正規訓練但肯於自學掌握了不少當演員技巧1948年和哈勒德•赫克特及詹姆斯•希爾一商量三人成立了自己製片公司事業追求道路上蘭卡斯特先後塑造過各種不同電影角色主要電影作品包括《紅海盜》(The Crimson Pirate1952)《亂世忠魂》(From Here to Eternity1953)《靈與欲》(Elmer Gantry1960) 和《大西洋城》(Atlantic City1980)等
蘭卡斯特電影製片公司--赫克特-希爾-蘭卡斯特公司先後出品了《馬蒂》(Marty)和《之子與歸》(The Catered Affair)等影片其中《馬蒂》獲1955年奧斯卡獎最佳影片獎1980年蘭卡斯特《南方英雄》(Local Hero)和《夢幻之地》(Field of Dreams)等幾部影片中擔任過配角蘭卡斯特最令人難以忘記獨特說話聲音和與眾不同開懷大笑風格
