歷史及現在
烏特勒支大學現有21000名學生，7000名教職員工。烏特勒支大學下設14個分院，幾乎涵蓋了所有的科學領域，其中包括：藝術、生物科學、化學、地球科學、法律、地理學、數學及計算機、醫學、心理學、物理及天文學、社會科學等。Urtecht University (以下簡稱 UU)是13所荷蘭University中最具有歷史根源之學校。因為學校最初發展始於中世紀時期並自此與烏城互榮共展，而烏城本身則是由羅馬人建於西元47年並且很快即成為北荷蘭人文薈萃之重鎮一直到現在。目前的UU就像許多古老的歐洲學校是由天主教會學校轉變而成，並於1636年正式在荷蘭政府立案為UU。大部分早期的學校建築至今仍座落於古老的市中心 Cathedral Squqre (Domplein)，而最著名的建築是Stately Academy Building (Academie gebouw)，現在則主要做為學校大事及典禮或博士答辯，reception之用。
20世紀的UU學生及教職員數目隨著各類研究室(所)在烏城各處設立而激增。因此學校當居為了實際之需要，在1961年選定De Uithof並將此建設成為主要校區。在De Uithof有12個學院和中央行政中心，留在城內則有Facultits of Law and Humanities及總圖書館(General Library)。若是比較學校經費(700 million GL)和7,500名教職員，UU 是全荷蘭最大的University，而若以學生人員而言(25,000)則略少於 University of Amsterdam。
