懷塔羅瓦和歐加里托海岸的四周的地區是蒼鷺(或稱科圖庫)是紐西蘭唯一的棲息地與孵育區。遊客可在持有許可證的導遊帶領下走一小段路抵達它們的孵育區。每年9月份到次年的2月底或3月份，成雙成對的蒼鷺在棲息地中不甚安穩的窩裡養兒育女。
