1985 年中國科學院化學研究所實習研究員，從事功能高分子材料的研究開發。
1987 年中國科學院化學研究所助理研究員。
1988 年獲英國皇家學會獎學金，赴英國 READING 大學 J.J.THOMSON 物理實驗室做訪問學者，研究液晶態高分子相變及凝聚態結構。
1990 年獲英國政府和 COURTAULDS 化學公司的聯合資助，在英國 READING 大學 J.J.THOMSON 物理實驗室從事結晶和液晶態高分子凝聚態的研究。主要包括，剛性和半剛性液晶高分子相變、磁場取向，含側鏈或側基的剛性高分子材料的結構與加工性能的關係，及其結構與性能的理論分析。
1993 年獲英國 READING 大學高分子物理專業博士學位。
1994 年受聘於英國愛丁堡 NAPIER 大學並任職 RESEARCH FELLOW ， 從事光電功能高分子材料的結構性能及其套用技術的研究和開發，包括：有機液晶顯示；高分子發光及其電致發光器件；非線性高分子材料；及其導電高分子在紅外感測器中的套用。參加或技術指導多項國際合作研究專項，包括與多家公司、英國、法國、俄羅斯、波蘭等高校合作。 1999 年做為主要技術參與者獲英國政府的 SMART AWARDS 兩項，並對兩家顯示技術公司的起步，做出了主要貢獻。
2000 年出任英國顯示技術公司 ( FREELIGHT SYSTEMS LIMITED ) 的 SENIOR SCIENTIST ，負責公司的顯示材料和器件的研究與技術開發。
2003 年北京交通大學，光電子技術研究所教授。目前，主持 2004 年國家自然科學基金 1 項，從事特種有機高分子光電功能材料的性能及其套用基礎研究，以及相關功能材料和顯示技術的課程講授。
