內容簡介
埃斯特·布洛傑特是好萊塢一個很有發展前途的演員，她在正走下坡路的大明星諾曼·梅因舉辦的一次慈善募捐演出中嶄露頭角，很快就愛上了這個年長且深於世故的人。而諾曼也為她的天真活潑所深深吸引。諾曼為埃斯特創造了幾次演出的機會使她一舉成名，他們兩人遂結成佳偶。埃斯特由於天賦極高，事業上的聲望與日俱增，但這使得每況愈下的諾曼深感沮喪。後來他酗酒、脾氣暴躁。埃斯特被生活中兩種強烈的愛、即對丈夫的愛和對事業的愛所折磨著。在一個描寫這兩種愛的歌舞節目中，埃斯特懷著兩種矛盾的愛又唱又跳，她用《出生在箱子裡》來表達她早年渴望成名的野心和命中注定的經歷，而她表演的《離去的人》，則使諾曼終於完全理解了妻子的偉大的公眾擁有這樣一位明星的權利。可是，若沒有埃斯特的經常陪伴，他又無法生活下去，最後只好以自殺結束生命。埃斯特在哀痛中繼續演出，並以自己的歌聲來永恆地紀念她的丈夫。
幕後製作
1937年的版本是最早的，但這第二個版本被公認成就最高。史翠姍的偶像朱迪·加蘭擔綱主演，全片從編劇、音樂，到演唱和表演，每個環節都爐火純青。1976年，芭芭拉·史翠姍重拍此片，由另一名歌星克里斯多夫森扮演男主角。這個老公走黑、老婆走紅的老故事被搬到搖滾年代，史翠姍的演唱場景很有生氣，但全片有些沉悶。經典名曲《常青》（Evergreen）出自這最後一個版本。

評價
本片同一故事第二度重拍版本成績上與前一部影片一樣傑出但本片加入了歌舞場面藉以來大大顯露主角朱迪．加蘭歌舞才華導演喬治．庫克對感人劇情與歌舞片段做了很好平衡但影片後半段還因為拍得太長而顯得劇力薄弱了一點。
