When I have read the 8th passage, I think I have happened puzzling problem. How do we judge companies? Author tells us that we judge companies by how we deal with issues. For example, ethnic diversity, harassment, hiring and firing, profit sharing and other labor/management plolieies. Accordingly we must learn to deal with issues carefully. They depend on the value of companies which can develop stendy. In the passage, there are two examples. Intearnal decisions can carry the well public impact. AT&T laid off thousands of workers in a years of profits. It brought a negative impression. People may think what has happened in the company. They may guess the company can not continue operating. Texaco’s failure to handle racial discrimination within its own ranks. People will never forget its History. Do you think people will work for that cpmpanies? Would you like to work hard for companies which have a history of treating its people badly?
In the ninth passge, morre and more companies are good at celebrating workers from different backgrounds bring to the job. For example, the hearst corporation celebrates the talents and contributions of all its employees. Whoever they are. It has special ways. They will give a small gift of workers’ home. Receiving the gifts brings the family into the celebration.
