I have read through the paragraph nineteen to twenty-two.
In the first paragraph, the writer said he had not intend to defend himself. But in my opinion, it is just the excuse for him to cover up his show off behavior. First of all, he shown the characteristic of the thing which were a permissible form of showing off：they were golden, glowing and glorious, hence the author had an overwhelming need to exult. Followed by the next three paragraphs, they are all subject clause. The first example is frying egg, the sentence “practically does a tap dance” is visual description her husband ’inner activity, he was very proud of frying such a greatest egg ever made. And the second one is her mother shown off her grandson to her friends. Here I think the sentence “and announced as she walked into the room is very good to prove she hurried to show her grandson off, and followed by three question marks are also embodying it. The third example is just imagination, if the mother of four asks the others to call her senator instead Marge, it turn to be a show off behavior.
In a word, although we can widely accept these examples in the life, but actually they are show off behavior, I can not agree with the writer’s opinion.
