概述
歌劇魅影（The Phantom of the Opera）是一部安德魯·洛伊·韋伯（Andrew Lloyd Webber）作曲的百老匯音樂劇。又譯做歌聲魅影、劇院魅影或歌劇院的幽靈。原著：《歌劇幽靈》作者：加斯通·勒魯
1986年首演，於1988年獲得七項托尼獎，是史上最成功的音樂劇之一。1986年倫敦的首演由麥可•克勞福德和莎拉•布萊特曼擔任男女主角，至今全球已有16個製作版本
劇院魅影可以說是一部折射著後現代魅力的劇作，首先它成功的改編了蓋斯東·勒魯（Gaston Leroux，1868-1927）的原作小說，既保留了原作的風格又使之更適合舞台演出，提升了作品的可看性，其次，巧妙的戲中戲令觀眾徘徊於現實與虛幻之間。尤其是追逐幽靈的那一場戲，整個劇院，台上台下、四面八方響起了幽靈的聲音，使觀眾置身其中，因為那句“我在這裡”似乎就在他們的身邊，就在隔壁的包廂，而那幕吊燈突然墜落的戲也著實令氣氛緊張刺激到極點，前排觀眾的驚叫與台上演員的呼聲連成一片，在這方面，舞台設計瑪莉亞·布嬌生自然功不可沒。
在全劇中，一首“All I Ask of You”的鏇律反覆出現，羅爾與幽靈對這首歌的不同演繹表現了他們各自對於女主角克莉絲汀不同的愛情，最後這一主題在管弦樂中浮現，顯示了愛情最終戰勝了悲劇。
劇情簡介
序幕
故事開始在1905年，年邁的貴族Raoul Vicomte De Chagny正在巴黎歌劇院參加一場拍賣會。拍賣師拍到一個八音盒。在競拍過程中，參與競價的Giry夫人見Raoul想要這個八音盒，就放棄了。Raoul如願得到了八音盒。隨後，拍賣師又提到了下一個拍品：在著名的Phantom事件中摔得支離破碎的大吊燈(chandelier)。為了讓大家都能看清楚修復後的吊燈，拍賣師開啟了吊燈上新安裝的電燈，一時燈火通明，Phantom的主題音樂響起，舞台上的大吊燈也隨之升起。
第一幕
舞檯燈光恢復正常，而時間已經回到了30年前。那是巴黎歌劇院的舞台上，藝術總監Reyer先生正在幫助首席女高音Carlotta和首席男高音Piangi(Carlotta的情夫)排演歌劇Hannibal。而Giry夫人也正在指導伴唱伴舞的女孩子們進行練習。這時，即將退休的老經理帶來了兩位客人Firmin和Andre，他們兩位即將接任歌劇院經理的位置。正當Carlotta在為兩位新領導獻上一首當晚準備演出的Think of Me時，突然從舞台天幕上掉下來的一塊布景引起了騷亂，大家紛紛猜測這是歌劇院的幽靈(Phantom of the Opera)乾的。Carlotta耍起小脾氣不肯繼續排練，並且離場聲稱不再參加歌劇院的演出。正在焦急的時候，年輕的伴舞演員Meg Giry(Giry太太的女兒)提出讓她的同伴，也是伴舞的Christine試試看，並得到了Giry夫人的支持。結果，在排練場和當晚的演出中，Christine的歌喉征服了所有的人，包括當晚到場觀看演出的年輕的貴族Raoul，他也是歌劇院的資助人。
回到後台，Meg問Christine是誰教會她這么美妙的歌喉，Christine卻說不知道，並提起她去世了的父親曾經提到過一個“音樂天使”(Angel of Music)會來保護並指導她。而她就是在自己的化妝間裡經常聽到一個神秘的聲音來指引她練習，她覺得這就是那個天使。正在這時，Raoul專門來拜訪了，原來Raoul認出了台上的Christine就是他兒時的同伴。Raoul準備邀請Christine共進晚餐，於是就出門去取放在外面的帽子。這時，房間裡又出現了Phantom的聲音。Phantom憤恨地責備Raoul企圖引誘Christine離開音樂的王國。Christine被Phantom的聲音震懾並迷惑，通過Phantom設定在穿衣鏡上的機關，跟隨Phantom走入暗道。等Raoul回到屋內，已經空無一人。
Phantom用歌聲引誘Christine來到他居住的地下湖心的屋內。在這裡，他繼續用Music of the Night引誘Christine的心智以及表達自己的愛意。最後，Christine在看到Phantom做的穿戴婚紗的自己的蠟像後，在Phantom的美妙的歌聲中暈厥過去。Phantom讓Christine躺在床上休息，自己則埋頭進行新的歌劇的創作。
第二天，Christine慢慢醒來，先發現了身邊的一個小八音盒(就是Raoul後來拍得的那個)，漸漸又回憶起昨晚是如何跟隨Phantom下到這裡的。好奇心驅使她壯膽趁Phantom不備而摘下了Phantom的面具。Phantom驚恐萬狀，惡毒地詛咒Christine的好奇心，說再也不會讓Christine自由，轉念又勸Christine不要害怕，相信隨著對他的了解，恐懼終究會轉成愛意。並告訴Christine他準備送她回去。
當Phantom通過他自己設計的暗門突然出現在後台時，正好碰到舞台工人Buquet在演示給劇院的女孩子們如何通過高舉雙手保護自己不被旁遮普套索套住。Buquet所言所行一切都被Phantom看在眼裡。路過並目睹一切的Giry夫人警告Joseph不要把這件事情告訴任何人，否則將會遭致Phantom的可怕報復。
Phantom把Christine帶走後，劇院裡著實忙亂了起來。Firmin和Andre看著演出門票飛快地售出，心裡又高興又著急，高興的是自己的業務不錯，著急的是Carlotta使性子不肯來，Christine雖然出人意料地成功，但是又突然失蹤。正在忙亂時，他們各自收到了寫在信紙上署名O.G.的命令，要求趕快補發積欠他的工資，並且將Christine取代Carlotta成為劇院的首席女高音。他們正在猜測這會是哪個瘋子的行為時，Raoul拿著他收到的一張字條也來質問他們Christine到底在哪兒，原來字條上威脅說如果誰想把Christine占為己有，就再也不要想看到她了。三人正琢磨著呢，Carlotta突然出現在劇院，出示了又一張寫著威脅她不許阻攔Christine的錦繡前程的字條，並且不聽解釋指責Raoul在背後操縱一切，就是為了捧紅Christine。正在亂的不可開交的時候，Giry夫人帶著Meg前來告訴大家Christine已經回來，只是因為很疲憊所以誰也不能見，並且帶來了一張字條，上面大意是：今晚演出的歌劇Il Muto必須由Christine來演主角伯爵夫人，Carlotta只能演一個不出聲的傳令僕從，而且劇院的5號包廂必須給Phantom空出，好讓他象以往那樣前來觀賞。如果這些命令沒有被遵守，一場無法預料的災難將會降臨到歌劇院的頭上。
Carlotta自然無法接受這種安排，她歇斯底里地咒罵著，嚇壞了兩位經理，於是Firmin和Andre連忙用一曲Prima Donna來安慰Carlotta，總算讓Carlotta安靜了下來。而且Firmin不顧Giry夫人的勸阻，公開宣布Christine出演傳令僕從，Carlotta出演主角伯爵夫人。神通廣大的Phantom果然聽到了，並且發誓要讓他們知道自己的厲害。
當晚，演出開始了，為了幫助Firmin他們阻撓Phantom的計畫，Raoul坐入5號包廂。Phantom被他們的輕蔑激怒了，先是將舞台上傲慢的Carlotta的嗓音變成了蛤蟆叫，導致演出的中斷，後來又在芭蕾表演的時候把已經被旁遮普套索絞死的Buquet的屍體從舞台天幕上吊下來，引起了觀眾們的慌亂。Christine和Raoul趁著大家的驚慌，逃到了屋頂上。在那裡，Christine向Raoul訴說了自己的遭遇，Raoul一面安慰她說這一切都是夢境，一面向Christine表示了埋藏已久的愛意，兩人合唱了一曲All I Ask of You互表心意。然而這一切還是沒有逃出躲藏在暗處的Phantom的監視。在Raoul和Christine相擁離開屋頂後，Phantom痛苦於Raoul對Christine的迷惑以及Christine的背叛，決定詛咒他們。在Il Muto演出結束演員謝幕時，劇院的大吊燈墜下砸在Christine跟前，毫無疑問，這就是Phantom的憤怒所示！

第二幕
幕間曲過後，舞台上出現的是戴著面具的Firmin和Andre，時間已經是繼吊燈墜下後大概6個月了。已經是新的一年。期間，Phantom沒有再來打擾任何人，新的吊燈也安裝好了，於是人們在劇院裡舉辦了一次化妝舞會(Masquerade)來慶祝這新的生活。已經秘密訂婚的Christine和Raoul也在人群中攜手共舞。雖然Raoul很希望公開這個秘密，但是Christine依然害怕Phantom會知道後威脅他們的生活，要求Raoul繼續保密，並把Raoul給的訂婚戒指串在項鍊上，而不是戴在手上。Raoul雖然不是心甘情願，但也無可奈何。
正在歡樂進行到高潮的時候，突然出現一個戴著紅色死神面具的客人，大家都被這奇異嚇人的裝束震住了。來者正是銷聲匿跡許久的Phantom。他帶來了剛剛寫就的一出歌劇《唐璜的勝利》（Don Juan Triumphant）要求劇院上演。並且，在再度消失前，他從Christine脖子上奪走那枚戒指，告訴她他還沒有放棄她。
舞會不歡而散，Raoul見Giry夫人心事重重，就上前詢問她是否知道Phantom的底細。Giry夫人在Raoul的苦苦勸說下，這才道出Phantom的來歷。原來幾年前，巴黎來過一個江湖馬戲團，除了表演雜耍，他們還展出一些畸形人供大家娛樂，其中有一個被關在籠子裡的怪臉人，卻是一個知識淵博的建築師，音樂家。後來，這個怪臉人逃出了籠子，大家遍尋不著，都以為他已經死在某個角落。而Giry夫人則清楚意識到，之後出現在歌劇院的Phantom，就是這個怪人。Raoul聽到這一切，心中飄過一絲寒意，還想繼續追問，但是Giry夫人已經不敢再說下去，他也只得作罷。
兩位經理對著新的總譜一籌莫展，說實話，他們不想聽從Phantom的命令，但是實在害怕再來一次以外。這時，他們又收到了Phantom發來的字條，上面對歌劇院的人事安排等做出了一系列的指示。接著，Carlotta和Piangi又闖了進來，大呼小叫，原來Phantom給Carlotta在戲中安排的是一個只有合唱的小配角角色。Carlotta無法接受，說這是對她的侮辱。Raoul帶著Christine前來詢問兩位經理到底有無決斷，是否讓Christine出演主角。而Giry夫人又帶著另一張字條匆匆趕來。Phantom在這張最後指示中聲明他的要求必須都得到滿足，否則，更大的災難將會等著他們。大家一時沒了主意
Raoul突然覺得這是一個很好的機會，便跟兩位經理商議一切按照Phantom的意思辦，但是另外他們將布置崗哨，誘捕Phantom。Giry夫人聽了十分驚慌，極力勸說他們，但是三人不聽，Christine雖然百般懇求他們不要讓她陷於其中，但是經不起Raoul的規勸，遂答應了他。當然，Phantom也沒有錯過他們的談話。
於是乎，一切都開始行動，Reyer先生開始給大家排練新的歌劇，在嘈雜的排練房裡，正當人們忙碌而且緊張到了極點的時候，突然放置一旁的鋼琴在沒有人彈奏得情況下自己彈出了排練曲目。驚惶失措的Christine奪路逃出，來到了父親的墓地前，向墓碑上的父親塑像訴說著自己的憂慮和恐慌，希望能得到他的幫助。突然，Phantom又出現在了她面前。Phantom告訴她自己就是他父親說的Angel of Music，就是來引導和保護她的。被過度驚嚇的Christine再次被Phantom迷惑住。這時Raoul也聞訊趕到了墓地，並力勸Christine不要相信Phantom的話。Phantom企圖挑逗Raoul上前跟他決鬥，但是Raoul被Christine制止並一起逃離了墓地。Phantom憤怒之餘，發誓要報復他們兩個人。
地點回到劇院，Raoul和兩位經理正在緊急安排警察布哨布崗，準備在《唐璜的勝利》的首演式上，在5號包廂抓住Phantom。不過這一切都沒有逃過Phantom的耳目，Phantom的聲音在劇院各個角落響起，嘲笑他們的狂妄，並且挑戰他們說如果真想抓他，就儘快開演《唐璜的勝利》。Raoul也決定破釜沉舟，和Phantom做最後一次較量。
演出在合唱中開始了，按照劇情。Piangi扮演的Don Juan和其僕從為了設計引誘由Christine扮演的女主人公，進入舞台上的隔間換上僕從的服裝。但是Phantom早已設計好了在隔間內用旁遮普套索吊死了Piangi，然後換上了劇情中的斗篷，遮住自己的臉，出來和Christine一起演唱了劇中一段優美的詠嘆調The Point of No Return。演出中，Christine偶然觸碰到了Phantom的面部，發現對方並不是Piangi，就掀開了斗篷，一時間大家被舞台上的突變嚇住，而Raoul為了不傷害Christine，也阻止了士兵開槍。Phantom按捺不住內心的渴望，用柔和的嗓音，向Christine表明愛意，而Christine也勇敢地揭下了Phantom的面具，讓觀眾們都看到了Phantom的扭曲的相貌。在一片驚呼聲中，Phantom帶上Christine，再次消失在眾目睽睽之前，讓Raoul精心布置的陷阱落了空。同時，舞台上的人們也發現了早已死在布景後面的Piangi。
Raoul一時沒了主意，但是Giry夫人提醒他趕快跟著她去地下室，並囑咐他一定要記住將胳臂舉過頭頂，以防Phantom再次使用旁遮普套索襲擊他們。同時，幾乎所有的人都出動，一邊高喊抓住兇手，一邊到處查找Phantom的蹤影。
Phantom果然又帶著Christine來到地下室，他正沉浸在小小獲勝的喜悅中，突然又被遠遠傳來的人們的叫喊聲攪亂心情。他質問Christine，為什麼這個世界會對他這么不公平，僅僅因為他長了一副令人可怕，連他的母親都不忍正眼以對的面容。Christine告訴他，之所以覺得世界對他不公，不是世人的錯誤，而是因為他自己囚禁了自己的靈魂，並且與世人為敵，為了達到目的而不惜殺人或者奪取他人所愛。所以，她對他的感情，已經從同情轉為憎恨，而沒有絲毫的愛。
正在這時，Raoul已經趕到地下室，但是被阻隔在鐵欄之外。他哀求Phantom可以對他做任何事，但是一定放過Christine。Phantom被他的打攪激怒，趁他不防，用旁遮普套索套住了Raoul，並且逼迫Christine做出選擇：
1）要么用Raoul的生命換取她的自由；
2）或者披上Phantom準備的婚紗，換取Raoul的生命。儘管Raoul表示自己可以為愛犧牲生命而在所不惜，但是Christine不忍愛人的犧牲。她最終鼓起勇氣，告訴Phantom，她將告訴他，愛的力量，會有多么強大，上帝終究會拯救Phantom的靈魂。然後，給了Phantom一個吻……
尾聲
一個意味深長的吻，如同天上的造物主的光輝，照亮了Phantom的封閉的心靈。Phantom被Christine的堅定的愛的力量徹底折服。他鬆開了Raoul脖子上的旁遮普吊索，對Christine和Raoul揮了揮手，讓他們趕快離開，並且不要再回來也不要跟旁人提起這裡的一切。
Christine和Raoul相依走到門口，突然Christine回頭跑到Phantom身邊，將Phantom之前給她戴上的戒指摘下，還給Phantom。Phantom強捺悲哀，目送Christine離去。然後悲哀地唱出“It's over now, the music of the night--”，然後慢慢地走向舞台一角的王座。
正在此時，Meg帶著眾人也找到了地下室這裡，在她們進到地下室之前，Phantom揚起黑斗蓬遮住自己，等Meg來到王座前揭開斗蓬，Phantom早已不知去向。王座上，只留下Phantom的一隻面具。
電影

劇情同舞台劇版基本一致，只在個別背景和細節上有所改動。電影的最後一幕，年邁的Raoul買下八音盒，獻在已逝的Christine的墓前，而在墓前，他又發現了應該是由Phantom獻上的系有黑緞帶的玫瑰花，玫瑰花在30年後，人們已忘卻了那段往事的時候，絢爛又孤單的開放著，留給觀眾無限的感嘆與遐想……

《劇院魅影》，講述了一個發生在1881年的巴黎的故事。一個卡西莫多似的苦命人遊蕩在巴黎歌劇院迷宮般的地下室中。年少的不幸讓人們同情他的身世，但醜陋的面容更使人們對他恐懼與排斥，不知道他來了歌劇院多少年，但他安於成為人們心中的魔鬼，成為歌劇院的幽靈。
這幕歌劇，便是講述這個劇院魅影的傳奇故事。
一出悲喜劇
在這場歌劇中，有人只出現短短的一瞬，便消逝了。有的人卻經歷物是人非的變遷，依然健在。有的人咆哮命運的不公、向社會報復，有的人享受貴族的榮耀與幸福，安享生活。沉陷於愛情的泥沼，或者為愛瘋狂。所有的一切，都發生在巴黎歌劇院的劇場內。這是一幕愛恨交織的悲喜劇。結局出人意料，卻也是皆大歡喜。
一個關於愛的故事

喜愛“魅影”這個角色，因為他雖然容貌醜陋，但這掩蓋不住他那與生俱來的貴族氣質，遮蔽不了他出眾的才華，也無法抑止他對愛的追求。他愛克里斯汀，一個巴黎歌劇院裡看上去默默無聞的舞者。“魅影”為她創作優美的音樂、華麗的歌劇、教導她歌唱、訓練她的舞姿。幫助她成為一個令整個巴黎傾倒的女神。

他並不想復仇，或者說，他也知道自己無力改變現實世界中的一切，所以他才會使用偷梁換柱的手法，殺死皮昂吉，把自己扮演成唐璜，成為他為克里斯汀創作的歌劇中的角色，在厚厚的披風下掩飾自己的面容，在警察遍布的巴黎歌劇院中，在舞台上與他心中的愛人上演這幕絕唱。希望在他自己創造的世界中，成為愛的主宰。
也許，他知道，在現實上演的悲喜劇中，他必須死。他帶走了克里斯汀，然而，他真的是為了占有她、霸占她嗎？未必。因為當克里斯汀不在乎他的容貌，給他深情的一吻時，他顫抖了。我甚至能感覺到那副“怪獸”似的臉上在流淚。這是一種幸福的感覺，一種常人難以體味的幸福。他並不殘忍，也不缺同情心，他需要的是他人的尊重，所愛的人對他的尊重。
他可以放棄克里斯汀，讓她與拉烏爾遠走高飛。但希望看到克里斯汀的坦誠，看到拉烏爾的執著。當拉烏爾寧肯被吊死，也不願放棄克里斯汀的時候，魅影明白了，這個看似柔弱的男人，擁有更大的勇氣。對愛的追求，能給人和脆弱的人帶來巨大的勇氣。愛的力量能促使我們忘記一切恐懼、去爭取。
也許我們可以說，魅影的殘忍來自於他童年的不幸經歷、來自於他自卑的人格。但我們又怎能評價一個人人格的優劣呢？每個人都是在一次次的傷害中成長。受到別人傷害的時候，往往也會傷害別人。
但我覺得，拉烏爾對克里斯汀的愛，更多的是一種對年少夥伴的夢幻般想像。或者說，歌劇在對他們兩人愛情的刻畫上多少顯得有些單薄。讓人感到只是一個灰姑娘遇見王子的夢幻。甚至讓人以為，克里斯汀因為拉烏爾貴族的身份和財富才跟他在一起的。
而拉烏爾和克里斯汀後來怎樣呢？無從得知。歌劇開始的拍賣會上，為什麼只有拉烏爾一個人呢？克里斯汀呢？30年的時間已是滄海變桑田，但這個傾城的美麗女孩，是否已長眠地下了呢？更不知道她是否還記得那個擁有醜陋卻極富才華的 魅影 。
一種令人心醉的美麗
華麗的服飾、精緻的布景、變幻莫測的舞台，再加上專業的演員。使得這幕百老匯的歌劇顯得如此美麗。從演出開始，巴黎歌劇院的拍賣會上展示第663件拍品的時候，就感覺自己仿佛來到了1911年的巴黎。昏暗的拍賣會現場、垂垂老矣的拉烏爾，落滿灰塵的海報，有些機械失靈的鐃鈸，傾覆的吊燈，讓人情不自禁的投入其中。
倏的一下時空倒轉，30年前的巴黎歌劇院一片金壁輝煌。《漢尼拔》的排演，有些耍大牌的皮昂吉腆著肚子在演唱。燈光照得他將軍的盔甲閃閃發亮。只有驚嘆的份。……
當場景轉移到歌劇院的地下湖時，乾冰營造出夢幻般的效果。小舟在湖面穿行。魅影此時仿佛變成駕駛貢多拉的船工，引領著克里斯汀來到他的宮殿。
當拉烏爾與克里斯汀為了避開魅影，來到歌劇院樓頂的時候，背景牆上顯現的是19世紀巴黎的迷人夜景。街巷裡閃爍的燭光與滿天繁星呼應。仿佛在星河中徘徊。
克里斯汀來到她父親的墓前傾訴心聲與困擾。魅影出現在十字架旁。深情的演唱，矛盾的心理，灰暗的服飾、蒼白的面具，加上幽暗的十字架。讓人也為他感到無限悲哀。

第一次進上海大劇院看演出，深深的折服於歌劇的魅力。只能說，《劇院魅影》帶給我的感覺，就是一段傳奇，一出悲喜劇，一個關於愛的故事，一種令人心醉的美麗。
