Harry Chapin（哈里·查賓：1942年12月7日—1981年7月16日）出生於紐約布魯克林，著名民謠歌手，更是一位人道主義者，共發行十張錄音室專輯（最後一張《The Last Protest Singer》發行於1988年），1981年因車禍去世，獲得過美國國會金質獎章。
創作背景
一個很有才華的創作歌手Harry Chapin，儘管他從來沒有在singer & song writer領域占據最顯要的位置，但是他卻創造了一首也許是他生命中最為人熟知的金曲---“搖籃里的貓”。
Harry ChapinHarry四處旅行演唱，由於奔波旅途，在第二個孩子出生時，他無法在小兒子出生的時候陪在妻子身邊，使得他相當難過。他的妻子Sandra Chapin非常了解他的感受，於是想到一個點子，建議他把這個事件化為歌曲題材。 就這樣，他用一首詩譜成了Cat's in the Cradle。這首歌從七十年代紅到九十年代，許多樂隊都翻唱過。歌曲來自他1974年的專輯《Verities & Balderdash》中文意思是“事實和夢囈”。這張專輯在當年形成大賣的局面，Cat's in the Cradle是最重要的原動力。這首歌確實是難得的作品，被無數樂隊翻唱過，象Ugly Kid Joe，樂隊歷史上只有一首暢銷單曲，還竟然就是這首“搖籃里的貓”！唱過的當然還有Skid Row、Johnny Cash、Guns and Roses等等大牌，也許是因為歌曲本身太好了，也許是因為歌曲出色的原故，後來的版本都沒對它做很大的改動，聽起來都是非常舒服。
歌中敘說了一個很簡單卻很耐人尋味的故事：一個小男孩在接受父親的禮物——一個球以後，要求父親和他一起玩，可父親總是說：“改天吧！”雖然總被拒絕，小男孩還是很崇敬父親，希望長大可以做父親那樣的人。後來男孩長大了，上了大學、畢業、工作……偶爾去探望父親的時候，父親總說：“有空多來陪我，可以和我聊聊。”男孩說他很願意，但是很忙，所以：“改天吧！”望著男孩離去時的高大背影，父親感嘆：“他真像我……”
