Read the paragraph 9-17

The去掉 paragraph 9 is a little short, but it hardly for me to understand. First, “Yet, despite the precautions”, the word “precautions” is noun, but this sentence is so short without verb or others. How it make up of one sentence. Then the behind part of the whole sentence. The phrase “papers written”, I can’t understand what it means. And the word “offer”, this sentence also don’t say who the students offers, but in my opinion, students offer papers written to their Teachers or professors. And the last part, “as their own”, I don’t know why it stands here and what as their own. Then let me look at another sentence of this paragraph. I didn’t don't understand it at all, because I don’t know the word “peeking” and the word “irresistible”.

The paragraph 10 is just one sentence. It gives us a an opinion of whether cheating is human nature or do parents and teachers encourage it by their own attitudes. But we know the author don’t agree with it.

Continue reading paragraph 11, this paragraph talk talks about one mother’s idea. But the first sentence of this paragraph say that no one bothered about cheating in youngsters. And at last the mother says that cheating is too much a part of human nature. Is that really? I’m not sure.

The paragraph 12, the second sentence, “I wouldn’t be comfortable with an honor code like ours in grammar school or even high school”. It is said by Mr. James R. Socas. And he is chairman of the honor committee at university of Virginia, but I don’t know why he says that he wouldn’t be comfortable with an honor code.

The paragraph 13 talks about the open-book exams. It says that open-book exams are more and more held. And tall tell us some advantages about open-book exams. Also, I think open-exams is a good way to exam students.

The paragraph 14 almost is the speaking of Stanley R. liberty. He says that there are many answers of the open-book exam. It is a important advantage of the open-book exam.

The paragraph 15 talks about the Cornell University. It set up a campus-wide dialogue organization. And Cornell University wants to change the meaning of the exam. They want to make the exam more meaningful. And hope teachers can discuss the exam problem with students.

The paragraph 16 tells us how to stop cheating. The author believe believes that stop students cheating must educate them when they develop the habit in high school. I agree with it.

Finally, the last paragraph, I think the speaking of Beverly Betz is wonderful. If I was high school student, I know this principle, I will be better than now.
