原文
俗以喜人面諛者曰“喜戴高帽”。有京朝官出仕於外者，往別其師。師曰：“外官不易為，宜慎之。”其人曰：“某備有高帽一百，適人輒送其一，當不至有所齟齬。”師怒曰：“吾輩直道事人，何須如此！”其人曰：“天下不喜戴高帽如吾師者，能有幾人歟？”師頷其首曰：“汝言亦不為無見。”其人出，語人曰：“吾高帽一百，今止存九十九矣。”
譯文
通常把當面奉承讓人高興的話叫做“戴高帽”。有個京官要到外地去任職，離京前去和他的老師告別。他的老師說：“外面的官不容易做，應當謹慎些。”那人說：“我準備了一百頂高帽，逢人就送他一頂，應當不至於有關係不融洽的人。”老師生氣的說：“我們以正直的原則侍奉上級，給別人做事，為什麼需要這樣呢？”那人說：“天下像老師您這樣不喜歡戴高帽的人，能有幾個呢？”老師點了點頭（表示贊同他）說：“你的話也不是沒有道理。”那個人出來後對別人說：“我原有一百頂高帽子，現在只剩九十九頂了。”
這個故事說明當局者迷。後用以比喻對人說恭維的話。

Before leaving beiJing, this student tells his friends:"I have prepared for one hundred courtiers while they are 99 ones left.
The story has tell us that Outsiders see more than insiders,which afterward is used to say compliment word to other person
