學校具有光榮的革命傳統，早在1938年就建立了中共地下黨支部。中華職業婦女俱樂部主席茅麗瑛烈士曾就讀和任教於本校。學校現為上海市民族精神教育試點校、上海師範大學外國語學院教育基地、上海市愛心助老特色基地、盧灣區青少年愛國主義教育基地、盧灣區體育傳統學校，曾獲市、區德育工作先進集體稱號，是盧灣區文明單位。校風純正，辦學質量穩定，連續數年被評為區教育教學質量表彰、表揚單位，家長對學校辦學滿意率保持在98%以上。
學校注重教師專業發展，已基本形成一支師德素養好、業務水平高、教學能力強的教師隊伍。近年來，學校在深化課程改革方面作了積極有益的探索，促進了辦學質量的提高，特別是英語教學具有明顯優勢。學校通過聘請外籍教師上口語課、在部分學科開展雙語教學、舉辦英語節等多種途徑，營造濃郁的英語學習氛圍，提高學生英語口語能力，各年級英語教學質量位居區內同類學校前列，英語教研組多次被評為區示範教研組。

Qixiu Experimental Middle School wasfoundedin1905, it was originally called Qixiu Women's School. The school is located at the graceful Sinan Road. It abuts on the Former Residence of Sun Zhongshan and Revival Park. It is a century-old school with profound cultural deposits.

It is the civilization unit of Luwan District and was conferred the title of "Municipal and District Advanced Collectivity in Terms of Moral Education".
