費迪一生的夢想就是自己的兒子高德能夠出人頭地，但高德不知是先天或後天的影響，他的好奇心以及天馬行空的想像力並不亞於一個5歲的小孩，儘管他已經是個28歲的大小伙子，卻總表現得像個不曾長大的孩子，這讓費迪頭痛不已。費迪想盡??做點正常人做的東西，但高德只做了不到一天就回到家裡，聲稱自己想當個漫畫家，一定要辭掉乳酪廠的工作，並像以前一樣搬回父母房子的地下室里搞他的“創作”。對此費迪哭笑不得，在他眼裡，兒子是個就知道吃喝玩樂的傢伙，他那些隨手亂畫的東西怎么可以當飯吃？於是費迪鄭重其事地告訴兒子，他應該立刻結束這種遊手好閒的生活，找一份穩定的工作，然後像個獨立的大人一樣從家裡搬出去，可是高德又怎么會順從父親的心愿，父子倆就這樣僵持下去……

[Grabs chicken sandwich, throws it to the dogs]
Julie Brody: Jim, no!
