研究方向組合數學與幾何學
研究工作研究領域包括幾何學、代數學、拓撲學、分子進化學、計算生物學、組合學、拓撲化學及圖像處理。
曾在德國Oberwolfach數學研究所和薩爾洲的瓦登-達格施杜信息研究中心組織過多次學術會議，範圍涉及代數K-理論、組合幾何學和近似學理論。另外，還在德國BadHonnef物理中心和比勒菲爾德交叉學科研究中心(ZIF)組織過多個學術會議，範圍包括結晶圖形、拓撲化學、計算和理論生物學等。
早期的工作致力於解決純數學的問題，從基礎幾何學到數論、拓撲、替換、代數…以及對有限和次有限集合的正則表達理論。與ManfredEigen合作解決了分子進化和計算生物學的相關問題，奠定了相似/相異的正則數學理論的基礎，被廣泛套用於系統發生學領域。此後，與生物學界開始進行更多的接觸與合作，使數學和生物信息學、基因組學緊密地聯繫起來。
近年來，開展了圖形處理和圖像合成方面的研究工作，它們廣泛套用於最最佳化理論中的組合學和離散數學、結晶圖形、化學、醫學以及純數學中的古典代數學和丟番圖逼近。
