NCE:writing 9

ten ten ten

In paragraph(Paragraph) 12, the author talks about a kind of showoffs which is(are) insecure showoff(showoffs). It is a sympathetic type, because they don’t have more(more去了) confidence. They want to let everyone know that they are good in different ways. There is a big difference between Insecure showoffs and narcissistic showoffs. Narcissistic showoffs are more confidence. The last sentence in paragraph 12 has two dashes. I know the first dash stands for explanation. The message is ‘I’m smart; I’m a fine human being’. But I don’t understand the meaning of the second one. Can a comma instead of it? I think the dash in here stand for end of explanation, it(which) should use dash better.

In paragraph(Paragraph) 14, it only has a short sentence which is ‘now that’s impressive’. ‘Impressive’ means’(‘) something (加which)makes you admire it because it is very good, large, important etc’. ‘That’ refers to the previous sentence in paragraph(Paragraph) 13---‘sometimes folks achieve great things and nonetheless do not show off about it’.

Then, the author sets an example to show the impressive people in paragraph 15. There is a ‘four’ (which) confused me. Does it stand for a mother who has four children or four mothers? In my opinion, it stands for a mother who has four children. In this paragraph, the mother has recently been elected to the state senate, but she never even mentioned it. The author thinks she is self-restraint. I don’t agree with the author. I think the mother is showing off. She doesn’t tell them the news in order to let people feel that she is impressive. The good news---she has been elected to the senate---must be reported on TV or newspapers. Then, all the people will know the news. I think she is insecure showoff. She doesn’t have more(more去了), but she wants to let people know she is good.
