不論中外，吉他唱作人路線有如歷久不衰依然受盡青睞，自2006年以來，英國陸續有不少新鮮上陣的唱作型女歌手，今次有被譽為“新Amy Winehouse”的Adele。據她所說這張專輯是關於18至19歲年青人的愛情，是一張比較失落的唱片。但從單曲《Chasing Pavements》和《Hometown Glory》的旋律中，滲透出的成熟韻味，並非年輕愛侶的小情小愛。
作為專輯的首支單曲，《Hometown Glory》表達了Adele對自己家鄉的那份深深的熱愛之情。而這卻是她早在18歲就寫好的歌曲。18歲的歌還略帶成長的迷惘和不知所措，然而這首16歲的歌曲卻成為了Adele給自己19歲成長的探索劃下的句號——或許在歷經種種之後的她頓然悟出：原來成長不過是在那些衝擊、矛盾、猶豫或是踟躕面前欣然而，在現實和期望最猛烈的撞擊之後，受傷的孩子終還是要回到那個依舊矛盾的故鄉，慰藉療傷。

早年經歷
Adele生於英國，自幼受爵士樂薰陶，如Ella Fitzgerald和Etta Jame都是她陪伴她成長的“音樂老師”。14歲開始作曲，16歲時便寫下了著名單曲 〈 Hometown Glory〉，18歲從倫敦表演藝術與技術學校畢業。倫敦表演藝術與技術學校位於倫敦南郊克羅伊登小鎮，是由英國教育及就業部同英國唱片工業基金會出資合辦的中等藝術學校（著名表演藝術學府BRIT School），亦即於Kate Nash、Amy Winehouse和Katie Melua等人份屬校友，當Adele談到Kate Nash同學時，Adele形容Kate是個很有趣的人。儘管學校以“大腕的搖籃”著稱，教學方法卻很另類，鼓勵每個學生做回自己。這跟一所明星學校的目的幾乎是完全相反的，在其他地方，人們學到的是成名的公式。“如果我能通過學校的專業課程，我將會在某個地方從事跟音樂相關的事情，成為歌手並不是我的抱負。”Adele因為害怕無法通過職業考試，而跑進了錄音室。
