雪地里的魅影在送年輕的男孩 Nicolas 去學校滑雪旅行的路上，他的父親由於近來發生的一場汽車交通事故很是擔心他兒子的安全。儘管同意Nicolas去參加，父親還是選擇了自己駕車送兒子去營地，然而這更加提升了男孩的煩躁情緒。在遙遠的露營地，男孩忘記了從父親的車上取下行囊。但是一名調皮的學生，Hodkann把自己的睡袋借給了Nicolas，兩人成為了朋友。
影片著力從Nicolas的視角描述他的夢，以及在夢魘中出現的Hodkann和他的父親。夢魘帶著他越走越遠，最後一切都真相大白並且更加令人震驚。
一個男孩準備在小心翼翼的父親的陪同下，前往學校組織的la classe de neige。顯然這個男孩是在父母精心呵護下長大的，敏感，脆弱，自閉，想像，能成功地將自己與現實世界隔絕開來，不斷地生髮並渲染自己的意想世界。
孩子天生是具有初生牛犢不畏虎的勇氣，以抵消孩童時代所不具有的戒備；可往往精心的父母極易將成人建構的安全方案絲毫不漏地實施到孩童的身上。他身體安全，可心靈不安全。每當他緊張之時，便溺床。而且，便退縮到他自己的那個意想的豐富世界中去。
