1981年底由西北工業大學套用物理學專業本科畢業並留校任教,1987年獲西北工業大學固體力學專業碩士學位,1998年獲中科院西安光機所光學專業博士學位,1992-1993和1998-1999年由國家教委公派赴德國奧斯納布呂克大學物理系從事研究訪問,2011年1~2月赴美國加州大學伯克利分校物理系學術訪問(教育部國家留學基金委博士生導師短期出國交流項目)。

長期從事光學領域教學、科研、學科建設及研究生培養工作,主講本科及研究生課程10餘門(其中光學課程為陝西省精品課程),指導碩、博士研究生110餘人次。主持科研項目30餘項,其中國家重大科學研究計畫(“973”)課題1項、國家自然科學基金科學儀器基礎研究專項1項、面上項目5項,省部級基金課題8項。發表期刊及國際會議論文320餘篇,其中SCI收錄110餘篇、EI和ISTP收錄240餘篇次,H因子13。獲授權國家發明專利20項,獲陝西省科學技術獎二等獎、陝西省教學成果獎二等獎、陝西省優秀教材獎一等獎、第7屆國際發明展覽會金獎、西北工業大學學術成就獎、西北工業大學技術創新獎等各1項。指導的博士生獲得全國百篇優秀博士學位論文提名獎1項。
