簡介
“國際年”是由聯合國會員國或某個國際組織向聯合國提議，經聯合國討論並作出相應決議而確定的。１９８０年，聯合國制定有關“國際年”的原則是：選擇的主題必須符合憲章；優先考慮與經濟、社會發展及人道主義、人權相關的主題；特別關注開發中國家的情況等。“國際年”的其目的是為了喚起世界公眾對全球範圍某個問題的關注，提請各國政府和人民為解決該問題加強國際間的合作與交流。國際日

2009年 國際天文年２００５年：１９０５年被譽為“愛因斯坦奇蹟年”，為紀念“愛因斯坦奇蹟年”１００周年和愛因斯坦逝世５０周年，２００４年６月聯合國大會將２００５年定為“世界物理年”。
２００３年，聯合國第５８屆大會通過決議，宣布從２００５年至２０１５年為生命之水國際行動十年，主題是“生命之水”，從２００５年３月２２日的世界水日正式實施。
