尖峰時刻 為此，李特地千里迢迢的從香港遠赴洛杉磯進行追蹤調查，由於事關敏感政治議題以外交形象， FBI當局特派遣卡特（克里斯塔克飾）來進行協助，但李在追查線索的過程中卻一再感覺有人從中作梗，除了可能的對手俊桃外，李意外發現，原來 FBI派卡特前來的目的，是阻撓李辦案的快速進展，以搶先李一步將歹徒一網打盡。
在一次次的對峙衝突，信任與背判的張力之中，李與詹姆斯卡特這兩個剛開始水火不容的警探夥伴們，要如何才能化解危機，直搗毒梟呢？

角色介紹
成龍飾演的香港警察，是全香港唯一能對付犯罪集團頭目錢濤的人，在香港行政長官韓的協助下，李警官一舉截獲錢濤販賣軍火，毒品和文物的5億多美元 贓款。後與卡特合作，在美國一起營救韓大使的女兒克里斯·塔克飾演的洛杉磯警察，被認為是 洛杉磯警察局中最無能的警察，但是他又自視懷才不遇，傲慢的他根本不把香港來的李警官入在眼裡，一心想甩掉他，獨攬頭功。在被李警官救了一命之後，卡特才竟識到自己大大低估了這位搭檔的實力。他和李警官配合，最終和江濤一夥展開了一場激戰，最終將犯罪分子一網打盡，安全地救出了小秀。

本片是成龍進入好萊塢後的第一部真正西片，影片的故事談不上精彩，過得去而已：好萊塢警探片慣用一老一小、一黑一白、一魯莽一老成的搭檔，這次將成龍跟塔克搭配在一起，用的就是這個套路，只是更誇張罷了。

幕後花絮
1、克里斯·塔克在片中的多數對白都由他即興創作而成。
2、馬丁·勞倫斯曾是扮演卡特的最初人選。
3、據導演布萊特·拉特納稱，成龍在本片中第一次沒採用英語配音。
4、奧斯卡金像導演波蘭斯基在劇中客串一角。原本導演布萊特·拉特納只是隨口說說，但沒想到波蘭斯基立即答應，結果布萊特·拉特納連夜改劇本，為大導演度身設計了一個角色。
