When I read the para.6, I wonder no matter on and off the job, what the definition of “people’s quality of life”? As we know, now because of fierce competition of work, it’s generally accepted that white-collar workers as well as blue-collar are suffering from increasing work-related stress. Moreover, some workers also need to care for both children and elderly parents. As the author said, both man and woman struggle to balance the requirements of their job and the needs of family. So in order to maintain a lower turnover rate and an enthusiastically team, the company should organize some recreational activities to help solve the problem, for example, sports, parties and tours. These can be an effective means of emancipating them from the stress. By the way, in this paragraph, I learn a very useful phrase “be sensitive to”. Here it stands for having or showing intelligent awareness or sympathetic understanding of other people’s needs, problems, or feelings.
After perusing para.7, Firstly, I look up the dictionary to learn some new words. The word of “on-going” means continuing, not stopping; and “transfer” stands for “the process of moving to a different place, position, or job”. From the context, I guess “provisional” is the synonym of “temporarily”, then the reference book proves my conjecture, it really means for the time being, for a little while.
The main idea of this paragraph is that working conditions today are not the same as before and people no longer relay on taking one job for life.
I do like the Land’s End Company, because it is sensitive to the personal needs of their employees and value the individual. I hope I can enter this type of company in the future.
