What is meant by “honesty”? It meanstruthful or able to be trusted and not likely to steal, cheat or lie. And To [to] be honest to one’s real self and to the purpose of a task earns trust and inspires faith in [from] others. Honesty is never to misuse that which is given in trust [?]. As far as I am concerned, in china [China], honesty is a clear conscience “before me and before my fellow human beings.” Honesty is the awareness of what is right and appropriate in one’s role, one’s behavior, and one [one’s] relationship. Honesty makes for a life of integrity, because the inner and outer selves are a Mirror Image.
nowadays, people are willing to pursuit the quality of life. And meanwhile either adults or children have their stress which from exterior and interior factors, for example the stress from caring for both children and elderly parents for adults and the pressure from their schooling for children. Does it lead to cheat even still alive and flourishing? It seems to me that the stresses are one of reasons. And other, in my view, which is economy and society develop quickly. With the popularity of globalization wave, maybe we receive their negative aspects, when we study foreign culture. And children cannot distinguish right from wrong.
What is the opinion of author? The author says scholastic cheating is as American eating patterns in the first paragraph and introduces the seriousness of cheating. From the paragraph 1 to 8, the author mentions that most of American students think cheating is not a big problem at their schools; in fact it is a picture of cheating among top students at top schools, of habits that take root in elementary school, bud in high school and flower in college. And reports students, teachers and parents talk about their opinion respectively.
In the paragraph 2, two words, “yes” and “no”, attracts me. They represent the individual view of the author for the students’ answers. Why does the author set up this sentence pattern? To be frank, I feel the author emphasizes on the contents of two nos [“no”s]. the [The] bad habit of cheating alive, and with the growing of people, it has no changes even flourishing.
When it comes to the paragraph 3, “one” can describe many things such as number, unknown person and single. What does [is] the meaning of it? I read the first sentence carefully and analysis it, I conclude “one” refers to “a very different picture”. And it is an attributive clause. After I think over “one”, I find “emerge” is interesting. Why do I say it? I guess why the author uses this word that means to appear by coming out of something or out from behind something. Its explanation is similar to “appear” and “come out”. For my part, “emerge” has special sight, which looks like something appear slowly from the lake or river. This situation give a deep impression to readers, thus it become a contrast among the response of students and their teachers. In this sentence, “picture” means situation. In other words, these situations look like a series of pictures.
Turning to sixth paragraph, “foundation” confuses me. It means a type of make-up which is spread over the skin of the face, usually before other make-up is put on, giving it a better and more even colors and hiding unwanted marks. After I discussed with my classmate, it means an institution in this sentence. An “expense account” is “an account of business expenditures for which an employee will be reimbursed”. After the author mentions parents get outraged to their child cheating on an exam and give him/her a lesson, the parents talk about cheating on expense accounts or income taxes. It is a great contrast between behavior of parents and language of them for child. How to do in the future for child? I believe child confuses very much. Maybe he/she is Misled by social evils even tending to go astray. So I agree to the opinion of psychologist that the roots of the problem must be dealt with in the home.
