ten ten ten

This article discuss a common behavior---cheating.

I found many new words or phrase that very difficult for me to understand[phrases, whichare very difficult for me to understand]. And they become obstacles when I read through this article.

In the first paragraph, I begin to encounter these obstacles. I know one of the meanings of “handle” is “deal with something”, but in the first line, the meaning of “handle” is not “deal with something”. So I turn to the online dictionary for help. But I haven’t found something in it. Then the second sentence is an interesting example. Everyone wants to lose his weight, but there is a highest record of sales report from the snack-food industry which gives us a hint that many among us are [delete "are"]still like to eat snack and ignore their weight. They are cheating.

Then the author moves to the campus naturally. There is a same phenomenon happen [happening]among students. There are three words appeal to me ---“yes”, “but no”, “and no”. They are all between two parts of sentence. The “yes” and “no” are very common and so easy to understand that we had learned there [that]three words when we began to learn English. But, in here, what do they modify? I read this sentence again. Then I found these three words represent not the opinion of most students but the opinion [that]of author. The author agrees to what the most students’ saying of them cheating when they were children, disagrees to other two sayings. That means most students are still dreaming of cheating now and the problem of cheating is still so serious in [on]campus that schools concern about [for]it.

Talking with Teachers about cheating, they told us a very different view. The author compares the cheating phenomenon to a picture. However, I didn’t know why the author uses “shatters the myths about who cheats and why”. After that, there is a long parallel sentence. The subject of four “of”s is the “picture” of cheating. So this sentence is divided into four parts. The first one is an amazing fact now that even top students at top schools find hard to resist the bait of cheating. And the second part describes the development of cheating of students. There the author uses metaphor again: he compares the process of cheating habit to the process of flower bloom. Then the third one tells us the parents play an important part in the formation of this bad habit. The last part predicts the result of this problem more likely to get worse. It is a very sorry and worried come out[outcome]. I think we should really draw [be drew]our attention to this problem not only for children but also for the development of society.

SO WHAT is the root of cheating indeed? The author quotes the words of psychologis[psychologists] .They said parents should make great efforts on it. Parents need to help children built strong psychological line of defense to overcome the urge to cheat. I was stopped at “make occasional failure an unthreatening prospect”. I thought there should be a preposition between “failure” and “an unthreatening prospect”. From the general meaning of this sentence, I think the preposition should like “as”. So I ask classmate for help. She told me that “make A B” means “view A as B”. This problem was solved.

As the root had been found, if we deal with it, the problem of cheating can be settled. But, as teachers say, too many parents don’t take the responsibility for their children development. During the process of grossing up of some students, they hadn’t been told about what is honest and what is dishonest from their parents. So the standard of identifying the honest of them is weak. Hence, there are some students who make sad joke such as that infers from the old teacher. The author uses “taught high school …for 30 years” in order to show this teacher has a long and abound experience and this teacher knows habit of students well.

In the paragraph 6, there is another example. When a child cheats on an exam, his parents get outraged. That means his parents concern about this thing. However their later behavior shows they also don’t take responsibility well. What they should do is help their child develop self-esteem, not talk about other thing. Children will feed up [be fed up]with that and be [become]crazy. furthermore, this behavior is meaningless and useless.

From teachers and psychologists’ views, the most gifted students are the worst offenders. Why? The answer from author is the aim to go to the top collage and graduate from it. They don’t want others who cheating on exams surpasses them and their efforts are in vain. That will causes the imbalance in psychological. According to that, they are likely to cheat on exams.

There are many polls had been done about students’ the cheating on exams. And some schools take several measures to cope with this phenomenon.
