該首歌曲是在好萊塢的一個沒有窗戶的錄音室工作的誕生的。《In the End》的雛形由麥克·信田構思出來。構思出《In the End》的雛形後，麥克將該首歌曲放給了樂隊鼓手羅伯·巴登聽，羅伯·巴登認為這首歌曲十分適合專輯《Hybrid Theory》，於是樂隊展開了歌曲的完善工作 。該首歌曲的最初名字叫做《未命名》。

歌曲鑑賞

《In the End》聽起來很不錯，有說唱、有採樣、有搖滾，歌詞寫的也很好。歌曲高潮是一段非常優美的高音向低音的轉折，讓很多焦慮地迷失在四壁高牆中的年輕人，尋求到了些許療傷般的安慰和充滿震撼的共鳴。正當新金屬音樂正在失去欣賞者時，林肯公園用這種結合新金屬搖滾與說唱的歌曲，成功地讓自己鶴立雞群 。

《In the End》的MV由彌敦·考克斯和約瑟夫·韓執導，MV中的背景拍攝於加利福利亞州的荒地，MV運用了大量的三維動畫拍攝技術，而林肯公園的表演場景則在洛杉磯完成拍攝。MV中，麥克·信田站在荒地中說唱，隨後，一些棘手的藤蔓出現，然而在他身邊的藤蔓卻馬上粉碎成灰塵。第二段時，藤蔓越來越多，麥克·信田的周圍還長出了許多的草。第二代副歌后，天空變暗，雨水來臨，林肯公園所在的法老雕像塔中飛出來許多蝙蝠。最後，塔上的幾個雕像“活了”，大雨停止，荒漠變成了綠洲 。
