Marc Anthony自幼即隨父母移居紐約，他的本名是Marco Anthonio Muniz。為他取名的父親Felipe也是名音樂家，他是因為一位著名的墨西哥歌手的名字才為他兒子取了這個名字，但為了避免兩位Marco產生混淆，於是後來就把他兒子的名字改為Marc Anthony。曾被形容為都會的拉丁文化復興精髓人物代表的Marc Anthony，他的文化感受性是同時建立在他所成長的紐約市以及他父母的故鄉波多黎各，兩者相融的結果，使他能卓越地在其音樂中，同時補捉到美國都會與拉丁美洲的音樂文化精髓。 他的音樂生涯是在他10幾歲時便已開始，當時Marc在紐約舞廳里駐唱時，他的固定到場歌迷就已超過一百人，除了以英語演唱、擔任自由即興舞曲音樂界的合音外，亦已開始為多位藝人譜寫歌曲。他最擅長的是必須要一遍又一遍重覆演唱一段副歌，鮮少有變化，節奏部份預先錄在DAT上的極限主義（Minimalism）浩室舞曲（House）。他也固定為一支叫做The Latin Rascals的合唱團擔任唱片中的合音，該團的製作人Little Louis Vega在1991年時獲得一紙Atlantic唱片的製作契約，於是他邀請Marc Anthony為他所製作的唱片擔任主唱；雖然兩人的合作並沒有引發立即的成功，但其中一首“Rebel”成為舞廳熱門播放曲，現在偶爾在曼哈頓二手唱片行里，還可以找到這張唱片的蹤跡。19歲時，馬克安東尼便已進駐卡內基廳演唱，同年稍晚，他亦參加了在麥迪遜廣場所舉辦為慶祝“King Of Salsa Music騷沙樂之王”、拉丁爵士傳奇樂團Tito Puente的領導者Tito Puente的第一百張專輯發表的致敬演唱會，擔任開場藝人。
Marc Anthony馬克安東尼曾創下在紐約麥迪遜花園廣唱的兩場演唱會門票全數售罄的紀錄，他也在Paul Simon所創作的百老匯舞台劇“The Capeman”里出飾重要角色，並曾於多部電影中挑大樑演出，其中包括大導演馬汀史柯西斯執導的“穿梭陰陽界（Bringing Out The Dead）”，而且他還是全球騷沙（Salsa）舞曲唱片銷售量最高的歌者。在全球拉丁語區，尤其是在Marc的出生地波多黎各，他的地位相當崇高。一位哈林拉丁語區的作家在“紐約客（The New Yorker）”雜誌的專欄里如此形容他：“他就像一團走動的烈焰。”
於1998年與澳大利亞女歌手Tina Arena（蒂娜亞瑞納）搭檔，合唱由“鐵達尼號”金獎配樂大師James Horner（詹姆斯霍納）所編曲製作的電影“The Mask Of Zorro（蒙面俠佐羅）”主題曲“I Want To Spent My Lifetime Loving You”，登上國際排行榜榜首。接著在1999年為性感寶貝、拉丁新天后Jennifer Lopez的首張熱情英文專輯“On The Six 六號地下鐵”跨刀，賺人熱淚地深情對唱了“No Me Ames”一曲並親自參與其音樂錄影帶演出，一舉拿下Billboard Hot Latin Tracks熱門拉丁歌曲榜7周冠軍！Marc Anthony馬克安東尼正逐步成為當今西洋流行樂迷心中最炙手可熱的頭號人物之一，而事實上，他在Latin Tropical/Salsa（熱帶拉丁音樂/騷沙舞曲）界，也早已是眾所周知、全球銷售量第一名的藝人！
