成功背後的故事
史上銷量最高混音專輯。
《Blood on The Dance Floor》於1997年5月發行 。當時Michael Jackson正在進行“HIStory”巡演的第二階段。它原本只是用於電台播放促銷宣傳之用，但最後反而發展成一張完整的專輯了。整張專輯由5支新曲同《HIStory》第2張碟中的部分歌曲的混音組成。
事實上所謂的新曲也並非“全新”。《Blood on The Dance Floor》是在《Dangerous》時期錄製的，而“Is It Scary”則原本是用做《亞當斯一家》續集的主題曲。但後因為93事件的發生，計畫也被迫取消。之後“Is It Scary”同歌詞雷同的“Ghosts”一起用做Michael Jackson的音樂電影《Ghosts》的插曲。“Morphine”和“Superfly Sister”則很可能是在“HIStory”巡演期間創作並錄製的作品。
發行初期專輯的銷售勢頭很猛，尤其是在歐洲，當時Michael Jackson正在歐洲做巡演，因此該專輯輕而易舉成了英國、荷蘭、法國,、丹麥、以及土耳其榜上的#1。 與此同時，它也是印度、紐西蘭的第1名，澳大利亞、以色列、 德國、愛爾蘭、比利時、挪威以及奧地利的第2名。直至97年年底，專輯在歐洲賣出200萬張。作為一張混音碟，該專輯取得的成績是不錯的。而在美國，由於沒有任何促銷宣傳活動， 沒有巡演的造勢以及單曲在電台的失敗表現都造成專輯滯留在主流專輯榜的#24及R&B專輯榜的#16。最終專輯共售出100萬，考慮到近乎為零的宣傳活動，該成績已經算不錯了。

《Blood on The Dance Floor》銷售初期的勢頭較猛，但由於只有1到2支單曲得到了發行且配合專輯的音樂電影《Ghosts》曝光率太低，由此失去了大批潛在的購買群體。
無論是“Blood on The Dance Floor”還是“HIStory/Ghosts”，專輯都沒有發行足夠的單曲。“Is It Scary”是非洲電台榜的#1大熱門。“Morphine”也可以成為熱門歌曲。單曲發行計畫的失敗反射出“HIStory”單曲遇到的同樣問題。這不禁讓人想搞清Sony Music高層究竟是在打什麼主意。事實上，如果上面提及的兩首歌曲可以發行做單曲，《Blood on The Dance Floor》至少可以在專輯榜上再停留6個月。
同樣，製作精良的電影《Ghosts》也應該同期在全球各大電視台放映。但不知道Sony Music是不願大力宣傳電影還是對電視台的播映權要價太高，總之《Ghosts》遭到了公司的徹底冷遇。很可惜，Michael Jackson傾盡全力演繹的《Ghosts》只有少數國家的一部分Michael Jackson迷有機會欣賞到。
假使得到合適應有的宣傳，《Ghosts》將會成為另一個《Thriller》 ，而進而將《Blood on The Dance Floor》和《HIStory》以火箭般速度送上排行榜。
《Blood on The Dance Floor》的未來：
除非電影《Ghosts》得到大面積發行，否則《Blood on The Dance Floor》的銷量永遠無法與正規發行的錄音室專輯相比。該專輯很有可能再無銷售高峰，但仍然可以在Michael Jackson吸取新歌迷的同時保持穩定銷量。
