外觀形態

闊瓣天料木，喬木，高10-12米。小枝圓柱形，紫褐色或暗褐色，無毛；二年生枝條有明顯圓形皮孔。葉紙質或近革質，橢圓長圓形或倒卵狀橢圓形，長（4-)7.5-10(-13)厘米，寬4-6厘米，先端圓鈍或短漸尖，基部楔形至寬楔形，邊緣具疏圓鈍鋸齒，在下面齒端處有圓形而下陷的腺體，兩面無毛，中脈和側脈在上面平坦，在下面突起，側脈6-7對，網脈不明顯；葉柄極短，粗壯，長約1.5毫米，偶達3毫米。
花序特徵
闊瓣天料木，花白色，多數，2-4朵簇生排成總狀，總狀花序腋生，長7-12厘米，幼時密被短柔毛，以後脫落減少；花梗纖細，長約3毫米，被短柔毛，靠近花萼處有節；花直徑約12毫米；萼筒狹陀螺狀，長3-4毫米，微被柔毛；萼片線狀披針形，長約5毫米，寬約0.4毫米，結果時倍之，先端鈍或急尖，邊緣有睫毛；花瓣匙形，長7-8毫米，寬約2.5毫米，脈紋明顯，先端圓鈍，邊緣有睫毛。
闊瓣天料木雄蕊著生於花瓣上，長於花瓣或近等長，花絲下部有毛；花盤腺體6-7，腺體陀螺狀，頂端平，稍有毛；子房有毛，花柱3，比雄蕊稍長，下部有毛；側膜胎座3，每個胎座上有倒生胚珠2-3個。蒴果倒圓錐形，種子6-9顆或較少。花期8-12月，果期9月至次年春天。
