1977年畢業於清華大學建工系。1985年獲清華大學工程熱物理工學博士學位。清華大學教授、建築學院建築技術科學系主任。從事人工環境工程領域的教學、科研和工程實施。在建築熱環境模擬分析，捷運熱環境仿真與控制，熱網調節與最佳化，供熱與空調系統的控制與管理，水果蔬菜的產地儲存等方面都做出重要的研究成果，並主持開發了用於建築環境與市政工程的RH系列計算機控制系統在國內廣泛套用，完成了沈海熱網控制，301醫院空調改造，德黑蘭捷運BAS系統等多項大型重要工程。曾獲國家科技進步二等獎一項（集中供熱網性能辨識與最佳化控制）省部級科技進步一等獎二項。已發表學術期刊論文百篇。
2001年當選為中國工程院院士。
