本書從基本功入手,主要包括了腿部、腰部、襠部、樁功等訓練。在基本功之後,介紹了基本動作訓練基本拳術訓練和基本技法。最後附有人體肌肉圖,讓習練者了解人體的肌肉結構,從而在練習過程中更加科學、有效。
武術,是以踢打摔拿擊刺等攻防技術動作為主要內容,按照攻防進退、動靜疾徐、剛柔虛實等矛盾的對立統一規律編成徒手和器械的套路,以此來鍛鍊體質、培養意志、訓練格鬥技能的民族形式的體育運動。它具有悠久的歷史傳統和廣泛的民眾基本,是勞動人民長期以來在社會實踐中不斷積累和豐富起來的項文化遺產。武林除了套路形式的運動之外,還有搏鬥形式的運動。遠在原始公社氏族社會時期,武術就以“角牴戲”等搏鬥形式和“乾戚舞”等套路形式出現在部落里,作為氏族成員的軍事體育項目。

《武術運動基本訓練(英文版)》作者蔡龍雲(1928~),著名武術家,山東濟寧人。自幼隨父習武,擅長華拳、少林、太極、形意,尤精技擊術。1943、1946年兩次在滬以中國拳法擊敗俄籍拳擊手馬索洛夫、美籍拳擊手魯賽爾,被譽為“神拳大龍”。曾任上海體育學院武術教研室主任、國家體委武術研究院副院長、中國武術協會副主席、全國政協委員。1985年被授予“新中國體育開拓者”榮譽獎。曾多次擔任全國及國際武術比賽正、副總裁判長,並多次出國考察、講學。

作者簡介
蔡龍雲,漢族,山東濟寧人,1928年11月生。中共黨員。中國著名武術技擊家、理論家、教育家,上海體育學院教授,原國家體委武術研究院副院長。中國武術九段,國際級武術裁判。
曾任上海體育學院武術教研室主任、體育系副主任,中國武術協會副主席,中國武術學會副主任,中華全國體育總會委員,上海市職工武術氣功協會主席,第7屆全國政協委員。
幼年習武,擅長華拳、少林、太極、形意諸技,尤精技擊。1943年、1946年,先後在上海與西洋拳擊家比賽,以中國拳法擊敗俄國拳擊家馬索洛夫、美國重量級拳擊冠軍魯賽爾,被人們譽為“神拳大龍”。1953年,在全國民族形式體育競賽暨表演大會上獲“優秀獎”;後入選國家隊併兼任政治輔導員。1956年開始,屢任國際、國內武術比賽裁判長、總裁判長,任第11屆亞運會武術競賽委員會主任。
多年從事武術教學、科研和管理,卓有建樹。著有《武術運動基本訓練》《華拳》《劍術》《少林寺拳棒闡宗》等專著十餘部。曾主編我國第一部《武術競賽規則》,參與編寫全國體育院校通用《武術》教材。在報紙雜誌上發表學術性、技術性、知識性文章七十餘篇。
為武術事業作出卓著的貢獻,1959年被國家體委授予“第1屆全國運動會先進個人”;1983年任全國武術遺產挖掘整理工作組副組長,第二年國家體委授予“全國武術挖整工作先進個人”;1985年被評為“全國體育優秀裁判員”;同年,被授予“新中國體育開拓者”榮譽獎章;1988年榮膺中國國際武術節“武術貢獻獎”。1991年,享受國務院頒發的“政府特殊津貼”。
