My laboratory has made important contributions to our understanding of protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs) in several areas: (a)advanced significantly our knowledge of PTP catalytic mechanisms; (b)elucidated the molecule basis for PTP substrate specificity; (c)pioneered a novel paradigm for acquization of potent and selective bidentate PTP inhibitors; and (d)developed activity-based PTP probes for global analysis of PTP activity in the whole proteome. Dr. Zhang was a Sinsheimer Scholar (1997-2000) and an Irma T. Hirschl Career Scientist Award (1998-2003). He is a member of several scientific societies including: FACULTY OF 1000 BIOLOGY of Cell Signaling Section of the Cell Biology, Editorial Advisory Board of Drug Design reviews, and the editorial Board of Current Protein & Peptide Science.
