When read the first paragraph, I was puzzled by the author. The author wants to write something about scholastic cheating, but he/she writes American eating patterns in the first paragraph. Why the author not writes the scholastic cheating directly? In my opinion, the author wants use the describe about the American eating patterns to explain the scholastic cheating, it makes the readers understand the meaning about the scholastic cheating much easier. I think the author means everyone says he is not cheating, yet the schools are full of people who is cheating, and the schools have deal with more and more people cheat.
From the second and third paragraphs, we could know that the students have a lying, they are dishonest. In the third paragraph, the author uses the word “picture”, I wanted to know which picture does the author say. So I read the paragraphs again, and I knew that the picture means the students’ cheating. The author makes the abstract things concrete, it is easy to understand. And the author uses four sentences to describe this picture. In the sixth paragraph, I don’t know the meaning of the words “expense account”, so I found the dictionary, it means an account of business expenditures for which an employee will be reimbursed. And in the eighth paragraph, I don’t know the meaning of the words “crib sheet”, in the dictionary I know the meaning of it, it means a piece of paper on which a list of answers or information used dishonestly by a student during an examination.
From the fourth paragraph to the eighth paragraph, the author writes some methods wants to deal with the problem, but they are not the root way. In the behind, the psychologists say that the roots of the problem must be deal with in the home. In other words, if you want to deal with this problem, you must get the parental support. In my opinion, the most important thing is to change our attitudes towards marks. Most people, especially parents and teachers, judge students by their marks. In their minds, high marks mean everything. On the other hand, students who get low marks are often considered to lack either ability or intelligence. In order to get high marks, some of them can’t help taking the risk of cheating. So the parents’ help is very important. They should not regard tests as the only way to measure young students. They should never look down them just because they are not top ones in their class. They must encouragement the students and make them have more self-confidence.
