WelcometoChickenSoupfortheSinglesSoul！Forthefirsttimeinhistory，therearemoresinglepeoplethanmarriedpeopleinoursociety.Ifyouarereadingthisbook，itislikelythatyouhaveneverbeenmarried，orhavebecomedivorcedorwidowed.Thisisabookthatsharesthelave，thechallengesandtheuniquejoysofbeingsingle.WhetheryouaresinglebychoiceorbyCircumstance，thesestorieswillshowyouthatyouarenotalone.
Whenwestartedthisbook，ourintentionwastocompileacollectionofstoriesthatwouldaddressthemanytypesofsinglepeople——fromthetwenty-year-oldnever-marriedmanorwoman，tothefifty-year-olddivorcee，totheeighty-year-oldwidower.Andwediscoveredthattheopportunitiesandchallengesfacingthisdiversegroupofpeoplearenumerousandofteninspiring.
Forexample，weincludedstoriesaboutbeingSingleandHappy——anunprecedentedtrendinourcountry.Forthefirsttime，manypeoplearechoosingtoremainsingleforalifetime——somethingthatwasalmostinconceivableeventwentyyearsago.
Ontheotherhand，itsimpossibletotalkaboutbeingsinglewithoutaddressingthedesiresthatsomanysinglepeoplehaveregardingrelationships.Manysinglepeoplewanttohavearelationship，andthatswhywehaveincludedchaptersonDatingandFindingYourMate.

InSeptember1985，Donnareceivedanewkidney. Theoperationwasacompletesuccess，andwhenKathycametoseeher，shecouldhardlybelievehereyes.Donnahadlostalargeamountofweight."Youresotiny！"Kathyexclaimed.ButDonnawashealthytoo——-everyonecouldseethat.Andlifebegantochangeforher，almostimmediately.
