I didn’t know the word “sort”, but from the first sentence I could guess that it means kind, type and so on. I’d like to remember it, interpret it and then master it. As far as I know, “kind” is used by most people too frequently which in order to make compositions monotonous and unattractive. If we can use “some sort of” instead of “some kinds of”, the essay may give readers a new special impression.
In paragraph seven, there’s a word whose meaning is similar with “showing off”. It is “boast”. When I saw it at the first time, I Connected it with “toast”. They are nearly the same in letters. In my opinion, the author choosing “boast” not “showing off” might want to avoid repeating. Although “showing off” is the key phrase in this essay, readers will be disgusted if it is appeared too many times. So that’s a wise action. In addition, it didn’t apart from the theme because of the little difference of the meaning between these two which I mentioned above.
In these two passages, the writer said showing off is bad, but sometimes it also is useful. That’s contradictory obviously. however, there are a great deal contradictions among us. Could it be an explanation to this question? In fact, no one could give the accurate definition of “showing off”, how to view it depends on your attitude in different situations.
