得益於其卓越的體系架構，foobar2000遠比現有的其他音頻播放器更完整。以下是其中的一些功能（在0.7預備版里）：
foobar2000它支持對給定適當的MP3在輸出級別上減少間隙，比使用DSP和輸 出外掛程式來模擬要來得更好，雖然這種允許不帶有元數據的MP3來達到類似（但不是同樣）的效果的方法是可用的。
它播放所有支持格式時自動儘可能的無間隙播放，完美的在無損的、OGG、MPC、MP3格式上實現。
它構建於可保存所有音軌元數據資料庫之上。
默認的界面使用Win32 GUI。有些可能認為是有缺陷的，但是以其能力來看，界面可以被替換為使用非標準的、可換膚的界面。

它支持播放增益(ReplayGain)。對於所有音頻格式來說，是個感性標準化的方法。
名字含義
“foobar2000” 這個名字沒有什麼真實的含義。當 Peter 開始寫這個軟體的時候，給工程起的一個臨時的名字。當然，這個臨時名字現在已經改名為foobar2000 。這裡所說的foobar這個定義名詞來自於行話，當你需要一個名字但是又不知道怎么起的時候常用來做元語法變數（你在Google搜尋foobar可以看到它是個臨時的變數）。2000後綴作為一個象徵用來區別這個軟體有別於普通辭彙，使它看起來比較新並且美觀。
Foobar2000 是一個 Windows 平台下的高級音頻播放器。包含了一些播放增益支持、低記憶體占用等基本特色以及內置支持一些流行的音頻格式。
