This time, I read the paragraph（Paragraph） eight and nine. however (加,) these two paragraphs are difficult for me to understand its(their) content and I have not(don’t have) a clear picture about author’ s point of view.
For example, some phrases in paragraph（Paragraph）eight have its(their) own implication, so I can not translate them just by their literal meaning. In the second sentence of this paragraph, “all too” draws my attention.(The phrase ‘all too’ draws my attention in the second sentence of this paragraph.) I ask my dictionary for help and know the expression (加which) is used to emphasize that something happens to a greater extent or degree than is pleasant or desirable. Also the expression “a year of profits (加”) refers to a year during which the company made a profit. Then I want to impose a(an) analysis on the sentence “and Texaco’s failure to handle racial discrimination within its own ranks will remain in the public consciousness for years”. The whole sentence means: the public will remember foe a long time that Texaco failed to stop racial discrimination within its own organization, and the sentence “within its own ranks” means within the company.
In the next paragraph, it is also difficult. There is a verb “celebrate” in the first sentence, actually here it means (加to) praise someone or something. And the author quote(quotes)a(an) example of “Hearot(Hearst) Corporation” to tell us how this company celebrate(celebrates) staffs. In the sentence the expression “printing presses” refer to machines used foe printing. The expression “high-profile”, which comes from the compound noun “high preface(profile)” means “exposed to publicity or attracting attention”.
These two paragraphs reveal us (加that) employees, investors and consumers have their own angle(Angles) to judge companies and how the company to celebrate their staffs.
