個人經歷
1971年5月23日，Laurel出生在政治自由的北卡羅來納州Chapel Hill鎮，是家中最小的孩子。10歲時她的父母離婚。孩提時代的Laurel性格很內向，非常害羞。在十幾歲時，她對表演產生了濃厚的興趣。
當Laurel在the University of North Carolina讀大學的時候，就演出了很多戲院出品的劇目。大學一年之後，Laurel搬到芝加哥，在Piven戲劇工作室工作。隨後她去到倫敦，在British American Drama Academy學習表演。那時起她便決定要做一名全職演員。她曾在洛杉磯跟隨Johh Lynn學習，隨後演出了由David Orr執導的獨立電影Blossom Time.
1994年Laurel搬到紐約，在新城劇院（Theatre for the new city）演出場外百老匯（off-Broadway）的劇目“the heart is a lonely hunter”。並且在Raleigh Little劇場與Jame Denton一起演出的“Equus”以及在Playwright's Horizons演出的Julia Jordan作品“Night Swim”里，都有相當精彩的演出。
Laurel職業生涯的第一個突破點是於1995年出演由Maria Maggenti執導的電影《the incredibly true adventures of two girls in love》。她在片中扮演一個叫做Randy Dean的小T，並受到廣泛的讚譽。影片講述了兩個來自不同社會背景以及經濟基礎的年輕女孩之間的一段浪漫的愛情冒險。此後Laurel接連演出了超過25部獨立電影。包括了The Myth of Fingerprints(1997), Boogie Nights(1997), Tumbleweeds(1999), Rising Place(2001).
而Laurel真正為大眾所熟知，大概是在2001-2002年間在劇集Angel中所飾演的Justine一角------一個被悲痛籠罩的要為孿生姐妹復仇的吸血鬼獵人。
在2004年初開播的Showtime女同劇集The L Word中，Laurel與Jennifer Beals搭檔演出了"Tibette"這一令無數人為之瘋狂的熒幕情侶組合。並且Tina Kennard一角還給Laurel帶來了一個獎盃------Golden Satellite Best Actress in Best Actress in a Series, Drama, The L Word (2005) 金衛星獎最佳劇集女主角獎。Laurel說會把她的金衛星獎盃送給她的女兒------"I will be proud to show it to her, and when she grows up I hope there will be more shows like that and she could see all sorts of characters. I’ll be happy for her just to find love. I’m proud to represent an alternative family on TV." 我將會非常自豪的把這個獎盃展示給她看。當她長大之後，我希望她能看到更多這樣的劇集，更多這樣的角色。只要她能找到得到愛，我就會很高興了。我真的非常榮幸在電視上代表了這樣一個不同一般的家庭。

幕後故事
Laurel HollomanLaurel曾跟男演員Billy Crudup交往，他們是於90年代初在紐約大學學習表演之時認識。
Laurel公開承認自己在1995年拍攝電影《雙姝奇戀》之時，曾和一位劇組女工作人員交往，但該女生資料不詳。她形容與同性交往的經歷 "it was beautiful and amazing, and it never happened again, and I wished it had" 那很美麗，很不可思議，不過卻再也沒有發生過，雖然我曾希望它有。
對於自己的性向，Laurel表示不會介意別人怎么去定義它，她只會用"married"來形容自己。而自己在當下的生活中則是"But now I'm married, married and monogamous. Very married, very happy." 不過現在我已經結婚了，已婚並且一夫一妻。非常已婚，非常開心。
在溫哥華拍戲時，她喜歡去海灘或是散步。不拍戲的時候，跟家人住在洛杉磯。
TLW劇集拍攝第二季時，她在現實生活中懷孕並堅持參演，懷孕過程被編在2005年的劇本中。
Laurel本人右腳的蓮花刺青，不代表任何東西，是她的一個在紐約瑜伽中心工作的朋友免費幫她刺的，她曾以為可以幫助自己更好地進行冥想，可是卻沒什麼作用。
Laurel喜歡Beyonce, 她說她非常hot. 而她最喜歡的樂隊是Pixies, Radiohead, Coldplay.
