本叢書共有6冊。每冊介紹240-300個在TOEFL、GRE、SAT等測試中經常出現的單詞。本叢書的特點是引導學生根據上下文的語境，包括例證、同義、異義、類比等關係來理解單詞，通過反覆練習、多次使用來熟悉和記憶單詞，從而摒棄死記硬背的學習方法。書中對每個關鍵單詞提供的各類練習能讓學生反覆使用該單詞達10次左右。此外，書中部分練習題的題型與TOEFL、GRE、SAT等美國常用入學考試的形式相似，對於我國有志於出國留學的學生熟悉題型也有一定的幫助。
《英語辭彙飛躍》為本叢書的第六冊，書中提供的英語辭彙練習適用於我國高校英語專業高年級（TEM8）學生的水平，也可以作GRE培訓高級階段的輔助教材。
