電影《彈簧刀》劇照出院那天，無家可歸的卡爾被精神病院的管理員收留了一個晚上，這是他第一次感到人間的溫暖。出院後，人們都想躲瘟神般躲著卡爾，直至他遇上了好友弗蘭克（盧卡斯·布萊克Lucas Black 飾）。弗蘭克將他當成自己最好的朋友，卡爾在生活里看到了陽光。弗蘭克一家被其母親的酒鬼男友搞得雞犬不寧。看到朋友受罪，忍無可忍的卡爾，決定挺身而出。
