When I read the first five passages, I found that there were two new words I didn’t familiar with. I couldn’t find them at new words list either. But I wanted to guess their meanings by myself. I paid attention to the word “rage” and the 10th line. I thought “rage” is a noun according to the “misery”. And the phrase “gets rid of” means “to clear out something”. Thus this word might be opposite in the meaning to “happiness”. And I found its meaning in dictionary finally. It means “someone was angry at something”.
Another new word is “explode”. It is difficult to distinguish “explode” from “exploit”. So I looked them up in dictionary. The “explode” symbol of disprove something like myth, while the “exploit” stand for using a thing fully so as to get profit. I had to remember these in my mind.
To some degree, I agree with “there are gender gaps in misery”. As author mentions in this composition, men are more likely to drink in order to release misery or even forget it. women are always sensitive to the surroundings. When they feel miserable, they often think about many questions such as “why the misery arise from”. Hence women suffer more misery and anxiety than men.
I like the phrase “be grounded in”. Firstly, when I saw the “ground”, the word “base” comes to my mind. So I can understand its meaning by guessing. Secondly, this word also means extensive. It suggested that the conclusion were collected around the world.
From the passage, I knew age and gender have not much association with happiness. Every one has its own view of happiness.
