unit 2 --Reading after paragraph 9
After analyzing paragraph nine, I think I get some understanding of the article. But, first of all, I feel obliged to say something thatpuzzles me before I tell you my unstanding [understanding] ofthis paragraph. There are five ‘----’ interpunction in this paragraph. I am not familiar with this interpunction. Why the author use [uses] them? I am not sure, the author maybe want to emphasize something and maybe want to catch redder's[readers’] attention . So I still do not know the reson[reason], I should ask [to] get the answer from my teacher. The author uses the word “outshine”. I don’t know its meaning, so the dictionary told me it means to be much more skillful and successful than someone. I feel it is a simple and good word, and I can use it next time. I feel happy. Turning to my understanding, competitive showoffs is told us by the author. Their characteristics are obviously seen [ to see]. A case in point is that is they want to be the best of every bunch. What is more. Competitive showoffs are people who reside in a permanent state of rivalry. Though this kind of people may be forgivable and maybe even acceptable .But I still do not look forward to be this kind of people. Nothing will ever content [with] them, they want more.
