In this section, the author mainly talked about the behaviors and thoughts that the narcissistic showoffs usually do. Though it is short enough, yet I have read this part three times, then I can understand it better. I quite appreciate the author’s irony style of using words.
For example, “They will even go stand on their head if attention should flag.” I think this sentence seems a little satire. If the narcissistic showoffs stand on their head, they must have got people’s attention. But people will consider them as clowns and look down upon them. The result is opposite to their expectations. I feel that the word “flag” is used vivid. It is used as a verb here. But I don’t know what exact meaning it is.
Besides, “they are often adorable and Charming and assuming—but only until around the age of six. ” It is extremely irony. In the first half of the sentence, it seems to praise them, yet it used dash to explain that it’s only for near six-year-old child.
There are still some difficulties, such as “Brooding darkly”. It is one difficulty for me to understand. Having looked it up in the dictionary, I guess it means “sulkiness”.
