Carly Simon卡莉·西蒙Carly Simon是成名於上世紀70年代最為著名的歌手及作曲家之一。作為紐約一個上層社會家庭最小的女兒，在兒時就與姐姐Lucy組成了二重唱組合 “Simon姐妹組”。作為組合的一員，她在1964年4月就發行了一首單曲"Winkin' Blinkin' and Nod"。而作為其個人推出的首張專輯則是在1971年2月，包括她的首支熱門單曲"That's the Way I've Always Heard It Should Be,"。這首與Jacob Brackman合作的描述反抗婚姻婦女心聲的歌曲登上了當時的排行榜Top Ten. Simon的第二張專輯《Anticipation》於1971年11月發行，在隨後的兩年內銷量達到了金唱片數量。同名主題曲入圍排行榜前四十，並幫助她獲得了1971年的格萊美最佳新人獎。1972年11月她發行了第三張專輯，No Secrets, 主打歌You're So Vain勇登金唱片榜首，並且引發了社會對此歌主題的探討。此專輯另外一首主打歌The Right Thing to Do也入圍了當年的四十佳。
You Are So VainSimon 於1972年11月嫁給了同為歌手、作曲家的James Taylor（在1983年離異）。她的第四張專輯於1974年1月發行，其中與丈夫Taylor合唱的Mockingbird以及另外一首主打歌 Haven't Got Time for the Pain全部入圍當年十佳。這成為她連續三次唱片銷量達到金唱片數量。而1975年4月發行的專輯Playing Possum又是一張黃金唱片，其中包括入圍四十佳的年度主打歌Attitude Dancing。而其第六張專輯，於1976年7月發行的Another Passenger則讓人略感失望。但是在1977年，她憑藉演唱007系列電影The Spy Who Loved Me的主題曲Nobody Does It Better，再度成為年度十大金曲的獲得者。1978年4月她發行了第七張專輯Boys in the Trees，獲得了百萬銷量的巨大成功，並憑藉You Belong to Me再度獲得年度十大金曲，而與丈夫Taylor合作的Devoted to you也獲得了當年的四十佳。相比之下，Simon的第八張專輯Spy(於1979年6月發行)以及第九張專輯Come Upstairs（於1980年6月發行）則相形失色。只有後者中的Jesse入圍了當年的四十佳。1980年10月，Simon由於長時間的疲勞精神崩潰，之後她很少出現在現場舞台上。她的下一張專輯Torch於1981年9月發行，背離了她之前的非搖滾路線。1982年她憑藉歌曲Why獲得了英國年度十佳，並且在1983年憑藉諷刺歌曲Kissing With Confidence再度入圍英國年度四十佳。然而，她在美國的事業卻日漸下滑，其1983年9月發行的專輯Hello Big Man以及1985年7月發行的專輯Spoiled Girl全都銷量慘澹。直到1986年，她憑藉演唱電影Heartburn的主題曲Coming Around Again重回美國年度四十佳。到了1988年，更是憑藉演唱電影《上班女郎》的主題曲Let the River Run獲得了當年的葛萊美獎以及奧斯卡最佳電影歌曲獎。1990年，Simon在3月發行了流行曲風的專輯My Romance，並在9月發行了電影原聲專輯Have You Seen Me Lately。1993年，Simon的“家庭戲劇”Romulus Hunt首次公演，並且發行了同名專輯。1994年11月她再度發行新專輯Letters Never Sent，之後在1995年11月推出了3CD裝的回顧專輯Clouds in My Coffee 1965-1995。在2000年春天，Simon在沉默六年之後，以黑膠唱片的形式推出了她的新專輯The Bedroom Tapes。
