Unit2: writing11

when when aston

In paragraph(Paragraph) 19, I can’t understand this paragraph very well, because there are many new words in it, such as ‘brag’, ‘glowing’, ‘glorious’ and so on. I look them up in dictionary(a dictionary). ‘Brag’ means ‘to speak too proudly about what you have done or what you own’, ‘glowing’ means ‘praising with enthusiasm’ and ‘glorious’ means ‘deserving great admiration, praise and honor’. There is a nice sentence which is ‘a golden, glowing, glorious thing had happened in my life.’ In the sentence, it has three words which start ‘g’. In my opinion, the author uses these words in order to emphasize that her poems (which was) published is a great praise. In this paragraph, the author indicates to us that exulting maybe is a permissible form of showing off. When she was showing off, she spoke too proudly and didn’t have a bit shy or self-restrained(self-restrain). She thought she had gotten a high accomplishment, it was worth celebrating.

The passage between paragraph(Paragraph) 20 and paragraph(Paragraph) 22 shows three examples about exulting. In paragraph(Paragraph) 20, when the author’s husband fried an egg, he was exulting. Then, he was showing off that it was the greatest fried egg. In paragraph(Paragraph) 21, there are three questions. All the questions have(Every question has) a word which is ‘gorgeous’. I look it up in dictionary(a dictionary). ‘Gorgeous’ means ‘extremely attractive, beautiful or pleasant ’. I think the word ‘‘gorgeous’ means ‘lovely’. The questions go forward one by one. It shows the author’s mother was showing off when she had a grandson. In paragraph(Paragraph) 22, the author uses ‘would have done’, from this(from which/that) we can know the thing which the author says is not true. In the paragraph, if the mother of four would let us call her ‘Senator’, she was showing off. But the mother didn’t say this kind of these wordsin fact. So we were filled with admiration, with astonishment, with awe.
