This time I read the rest paragraphs of unit four, it is interesting for(to) me to impose an analysis on(of) them sentence by sentence.
Paragraph nine reveals us the actuality that No matter what precautions to be taken(be taken), the cheating phenomenon still could not be forbidden in the test or paper written(writing). Here “irresistible” means (加 “)impossible to refuse, oppose or avoid because too pleasant, attractive or strong(加 ”). I think its application here is appropriate.
There is only one sentence for paragraph(Paragraph) ten, however (加 ,)it is made up for two questions. To the question “is cheating human nature”, in my opinion it is true. Because(, because) we will be(be刪去) succeed more easily in(by) the way of cheating. And I believe parents and teachers encourage the cheating behavior by their inconsistency, they have not set a good example to children, but change the values of innocent children.
In the first sentence of paragraph(Paragraph) eleven, for my part, “anyway” is an adverb (加which) means “no matter how”. In this paragraph, there is a new phrase which I have not seen before, it(which) is “lay a guilt trip on” which means(加 “) make someone feel guilty (加 ”). Many parents always pay attention to their children’ studying but indulge their cheating behavior. Because(, because) they has cheated more or less when they are(were) youngsters. In the sentence, “it is ……too much a part of human nature” means “cheating is so natural”, or “it is such a significant part of human nature”.
Paragraph twelve cites the standpoint of the chairman of the honor committee at the University of Virginia, it(which) is about how to cheat(treat) the youngsters who are cheating. All of us should forgive their cheating behavior for(in that) they are youngster(youngsters). Then to tell them as a(an) adult who should take responsibility for their actions in thief(their) future life(lives). Here the phrase “on the threshold of” means (加 “)at the beginning of a new and important event or development(加 ”).
In the following paragraph, it introduces us an effective test way which has applied widely in the university(universities). I reach an agreement with the method of open-book exams, I think it(which I think) is the embodiment of quality-oriented education which has been advocated in my country. indeed, many students get high scores but low practical skill(skills) in modern china, it is what we are unwilling to see. Dual is a new word to me which means (加 “) consisting of two parts, elements or aspects (加 ”) .
Paragraph fourteen reveals us the advantage of open-book exams, (加 and ) the answers given by different students are unbelievable low probability the same, if they do, they are cheating.
ongoing my reading, I see a word “pedagogical”, I look it up in the dictionary, it means (加 “)relating to teaching methods or the practice of teaching(加 ”). And “vice-president of academic programs” means (加 “)the same as “vice-president of academic affairs” (加 ”).
Paragraph sixteen tells us the sole way to stop students from cheating in college (加which) is the habit that they should fall into in high school. The word “prevalent” means (加 “)common at a particular time, in a particular place, or among a particular group of people(加 ”). An “elusive goal” is one that is difficult to achieve. Here “elusive” means “difficult to find, catch or achieve”.
I agree with the view of point given in the last paragraph. Actually, score is not the whole world to students, it(which) is just a factor to evaluate whether they learn well, if they not, they should make more efforts.
