馬克·艾沙姆1951年9月7日出生在紐約一個音樂世家(其母親是一個小提琴手，他的父親教習音樂和歷史)他在很小的時候便開始學習古典鋼琴、小號、小提琴。由於對爵士樂和古典音樂的喜愛早年間在舊金山歌劇交響樂團擔任小號手。在70年代中期他組建了樂團Sons of Champlin並與其喜愛的The Beach Boys,Van Morrison進行了巡演，在70年代後期他錄製了首張專輯，在1979年早期他組建了一支前衛爵士樂團，而在1983年開始個人發展。在80至90年代初艾沙姆和他的樂隊在一些新生代的配樂人的作品中擔任古典小號演奏者，爵士編曲人，器樂演奏者，搖滾嘉賓。近幾年艾沙姆開始把他的精力放在電影界，並為導演Robert Redford，Robert Altman等人合作，譜寫了 "A River Runs Through It" (1992), "Timecop" (1994), "The Net" (1995), "Kiss the Girls" (1997), "Blade" (1998), varsity Blues" (1999), "Rules of Engagement" (2000), "Men of Honor" (2000), "Save the Last Dance" (2001), "Don't Say a Word" (2001)，其他佳作還包括："Reversal of Fortune" (1990), "Quiz Show" (1994), "Nell" (1994), "October Sky" (1999) "The Majestic" (2001) 。艾沙姆在1992年獲得奧斯卡提名，於1997年因電視系列'EZ Streets'獲得一座艾美獎。除了電影配樂外，艾沙姆還出品了多張爵士專輯，值得提及的有："Blue Sun", 與Art Lande合作的"We Begin" , "Vapor Drawings", "Castalia", 與Misha Segal合作的"Zambooka" , 同名專輯 "Mark Isham",向傳奇小號大師miles davis致敬的"The Silent Way Project".
