2007年1月16日中國正式啟動oligo項目，即"食物+oligo"項目，推進公眾營養改善行動。
OLIGO項目主要是通過倡導食品與保健品行業在公眾攝入食物中加入益生元，激活與增殖人體內益生菌群，促進微生態平衡，改善公眾營養健康。
